My Question or Issue

Spotify (only the desktop app, web app works fine) keeps muting everything that makes sound after I pause my music. Background sound plays fine when I play music over it, but when I pause Spotify the background sound completely stops. Doesn't matter if it's a Youtube video, a game, or whatever, it just stops everything and everything is muted until I close down Spotify. This is most likely an issue with Bluetooth, as I use Bluetooth headphones and when I plug my headphones in with an aux cord the issue goes away.

I've tried re-installing the desktop app and restarting my computer, as well as updating the drivers for my laptop's Bluetooth card, but none of these seemed to do anything.

This is really getting on my nerves.

Hey there folks,

We really appreciate all your reports so far!

We've passed them on to our tech team, and they're investigating this.

We don't have an exact timeline for a fix, however we'd recommend making sure that the app is always updated on your device. You can follow the steps provided here.

Thanks!

- Device and OS version

ios 10.13.6

- Spotify version

1.0.98.78.gb45d2a6b

- Bluetooth device?

Bose qc35, other bluetooth headphones.

I sometimes listen to music on youtube.com, and the only way around this issue is to press play in spotify, bring the volume down to 0 inside the spotify app. Obviously this now screws up the recommendations and it thinks you are listening to all these songs without skipping when really you're not

The "disabling media keys overlay" fix works for me on Windows. **WHY** it works is a mystery, but hopefully it gives the dev team something to work with!

I am having the same issue with OSX.  In order for me to have other audio feeds work. I need to quit Spotify while music is playing or keep the music playing and turn Spotify volume all the way down.

System Version: macOS 10.14.3 (18D109)

Kernel Version: Darwin 18.2.0

Hey folks,

Thanks for the info you've provided so far. We're still looking into this and will get back as soon as we have updates.

@rjarnutowski there's a newer Spotify version available. Can you make sure to have your Spotify version up-to-date (preferably by reinstalling), and let us know if the issue persists.

Thanks!
