Spotify offline playlists gone after Spotify upgrade due to Storage location change

Status: Case Closed

Hello Spotify support,

I discovered for the 4th time that I lost all my OFFLINE playlists. I believe this happens every time the Spotify app on my Andriod Samsung A3 2017 with a 128GB SD card is updated. What I notice is that the storage location is then set back to the 8GB internal SD storage (16GB, with less then 3 GB free space left). I have for that reason a 128 GB SD card to store data like Spotify OFFLINE music.

So I find that the storage location falls back to internal storage after every Spotify App update, also at the same time the playlist that were set to OFFLINE are the set with OFFLINE disabled again.

Switching the Storage location back to the SD card doesn't  simply restore i.e. the music stored on that SD card. So I have to set the Playlists back to OFFLINE and then again ~2000 songs need to be download again. That this happens so often over the last couple of months is very irritating.

I am paying for a Premium subscription without a properly working Premiumum key feature. The feature for me to have Spotify.  Please fix this very annoying issue.

Brgds,

Bas

I discoved that I have again 3 new profiles for my only single Samsung A3 2017 that only uses the offline function. The dates exactly match the moments I lost all my music. Before I have twice cleared all devices.

The picture below is in Dutch, but show 3 offline devices (same Andriod) phone. I am going to deleted them again to have a clean start. But it of course doesn't take away the root cause.

Hey @inetbas! Welcome to the Spotify community.

Could you let us know what Spotify version are you using? We also recommend to remove all of your offline devices and then download the music one more time at: https://www.spotify.com/account/overview/.

It's worth checking this article to avoid this happening again as well: https://support.spotify.com/article/listen-offline-troubleshooting/.

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Hello William ,

The Spotify version on my Samsung A3 2017 is 8.4.28.875

I removed as a few times before again all devices, which are this same Samsung phone.

It will work then probably for a few weeks until I discover again all download music are lost or again with that Spotify falls back to internal memory.

BTW:  I read on that link that when Spotify updates itself downloaded music is lost. This shouldn't happen and it would be good that Spotify warns about it in the release note with the update ,so you then can postpone the update until your are in a position to download all songs again :-(.

In case a Spotify update really requires a erase of downloaded music it should be reduced to a minimum occurrence, not every couple of weeks. This very customer unfriendly.

I believe more in companies that focus on only their specific product and with that are able to bring the best and latest to their customers. For that Spotify must assure it keeps it act together otherwise it loses against the big and powerful .

Btw: in case of the 30 days online  requirement why not grey out downloads instead of erasing them. Again erasing is very customer unfriendly. I am alway sufficient online, but still,

anyhow thank you for your feedback, this is appreciated,

Bas.

Hello Sergio David,

Thank you for the response. I believe if Spotify improves ans and makes the download feature more stable may users will be pleased with this.  Jumping on a long flight and then again discover your downloaded music is gone again is so frustrating.
