Spotify playlists & folders missing when I expand folders?

so I've only noticed this today, but whenever I expand a folder on the spotify desktop app for mac, the folder expanded and everything below it (be it folders or playlists) disappears and just the black background remains. The playlists and folders above are still there though. Then, if I scroll a little up/down, everything reappears.

It's not a massive problem, the playlists are still there. It's just abnormal and a real pain when I'm so used to the way it was. Anyone else had anything similar to this or is it just my desktop app?

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

Hey what are the odds hahaha!

Sadly no, nothing has worked for me 😕 I uninstalled and reinstalled like Ivan suggested above but to no avail.

I did find this discussion about other people facing the same problem, though they're all mac users like me. since you've got it too maybe it's not a mac app thing but something else?

Do let me know if anything works for you, it's getting pretty annoying haha :')

Hi Ivan, sorry it's been a couple of weeks but sadly the uninstall-reinstall didn't solve the problem. Are there any other solutions I could try?

It seems a few other users (Mac and Windows) are experiencing the same issue as well.

Thank you!

Yeah, major drag especially when you are in the middle of moving a playlist into another folder and the entire side bar goes black before accomplishing the task. I had to search for where the playlist ended up after having to scroll to gain visibility....probably won't be doing a lot of folder organization for a good long while...anti-productive.

I'll definitely keep you posted. Thanks for posting the other thread...Macs and PCs...wouldn't this indicate it's on Spotify's end? Looks like the Mac users have a louder voice than the  PC users...at this point anyway.  PC users have opted to deal with so much for so long that perhaps they are trying everything on their end before complaining!

I hope more people start to join in after getting sufficiently frustrated. Perhaps at that point Spotify will look into it. The uninstall/reinstall remedy is almost always recommended. Like a fix-all....to me a sign that the problem is most likely deep in the app's programming... puts it on the user's end. That's how it feels to me unfortunately.

I've never seen anything like this before; it doesn't makes sense that the fix would be on our end but tried Ivan's suggestion out of respect and a random hope.

Yeah hopefully more people join in and we may get Spotify to fix it. It's been happening for about two weeks now for me.

Yes, worrisome. It's definitely made my Spotify experience less enjoyable. I've been using Pandora and my personal library a lot more. Any listening on Spotify, without even using folders, reminds me that my actions are being curbed by the folder bug and it upsets me. It negatively affects my view of Spotify when a bug this nasty comes out. Their integrity takes a hit...

Hey there folks,

Thanks for posting about this here in the Community!

We're having some troubles reproducing this on our end. If you haven't already, could you try a clean reinstallation of the app with these steps? This usually does the trick.

If you're still having troubles after that, it'd be helpful if you could include a new screen recording or screenshot of what's happening - the one you've shared previously shows as unavailable. This way, we'll be able to take a closer look into what's happening.

Let us know how it goes! We'll be right here if you need more help.

Have a lovely day 🙂

I have done a clean reinstall of the app and it still fails.

NOTE: The failure occurs especially in folders with a lot of content to display.

I have done the test with your test account (cs_test_4) and it also fails (watch this new video: https://we.tl/t-chpGtajeso ).

It also fails on an old MacBook I have (MacBook White 2009, macOS High Sierra).

Please fix it. This way I can't work...

Just chiming in with my hand-raised . This has been affecting me for weeks on my mac, and I just assumed it would be solved by now. Thank you for creating this thread. Will stay posted for solution.

Yep. Has been happening to me for weeks on my mac.

Thanks for posting a video. Looks the same for me.

I'm on a Win10 PC. I've been plagued with this same black bug for the last 2 updates as previously mentioned by others, about 3-4 weeks now... Miserable and I can't work either.

I actually lost a playlist into an unknown folder because it went black as I was scrolling and then when I moved my mouse to gain visibility, Spotify inadvertently deposited it into some random folder...

Took me a while to locate where it ended up. A major problem. Needless to say, won't be doing any sort of serious editing.

The uninstall/reinstall is not a fix...it's certainly on Spotify's end as we all suspected.

Here's another discussion noting this same bug:
