Spotify skips songs or starts playing a random playlist without me selecting it

I have Spotify premium, and every once in a while, I will be playing one of my playlists, and the song will just skip to the next song. Other times, it will start playing a completely different playlist, one that I did not create (most often by the artist Zae Day, whom I've never heard of).

 

I have tried signing out of Spotify everywhere, but the problem persists. I use Spotify in my classes (i teach music), so it's becoming a HUGE nuisance.

Is there a chance you've connected your device to a shared WiFi network? If so, this might be the reason why your music is being interrupted. This happens because other users connected to the same WiFi network are able to see your device under Connect. Also, keep in mind Spotify is for personal entertainment only and not for commercial use. This means it can’t be played in public places such as bars, restaurants, stores, schools, etc.

Is this happening with just one playlists or several? Does it also happen if you try to listen to an album from start to finish?

 

It's possible that you hav the Autoplay feature active. This feature will start playing other songs based on your playlist after all songs in the playlist have been played. You can check how to turn this featuere off here.

It happens in the middle of a song, whether in a playlist or in an album. I
have Auto play turned off, and it doesn't happen after the
playlist/album/queue list is done.

It's not cool that this happens. If it's happening only on specific devices, let us know the operating system and Spotify version. If you already changed the password and is still happening, you could try a clean reinstall of the app with these steps. Also, let us know if when this happens you see a different device playing the music through Spotify Connect.
