Spotify stops playing after an ad

We've received reports that Spotify pauses after an ad and the playback cannot be resumed. This seems to affect multiple platforms including desktop, mobile, and TV.

The behavior is currently being investigated.

Hey folks,

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app up to date to ensure you're on the latest version.

Thanks again!

Hey everyone,

Thank you again for sharing the requested details.

All reports have been forwarded to the team investigating this, however, they're still having difficulties tracing the root cause and need your help.

For this you'll just need to confirm you're willing to participate and share your device details if you haven't already. If you have, just share your current Spotify app version so we have the most up-to-date info.

Once you've done so, we'll post a confirmation in the thread that your account is being monitored by the devs and you'll need to reproduce the issue again giving us the timestamp of its last occurrence.

Hopefully, this will allow the team to spot the error and fix it.

Looking forward to your replies 🙏

Well what if I am on Xbox what system would that be considered? Desktop or tv etc.

Here’s a screenshot I took with my phone connected to my console and Spotify playing through the Xbox app. The 30 second ad has been playing for over 5 minutes

My Issue

I was with this poblem of after the AD run, the app does not continue the songs of the playlist.. (When this occurred I simply closed the app and opened again, until then normal) but I had to uninstall all the Xbox apps, and when I try to install Spotify, it keeps giving installation error. The app itself has 11,something MB's, but when the installation error occurs, it is shown with 1MB.. and if I click "try again" will increase like "1.30MB, 1.90MB, 2.40Mb..." thus, progressively passing the original 11MB of the app, but continuing the download error.

This is an absolute joke. It’s been almost a year and a half since this started being reported. Since Spotify clearly has no urgency or desire whatsoever to fix this issue, I have a better fix/suggestion for everyone. Just stop using Spotify. Pandora works wonderfully on my Xbox. Maybe if Spotify starts losing users, they’ll finally do something about it.

Indeed, it's becoming a shameless display by Spotify. They claim that tech people have been working on it since June. Meanwhile, they keep asking for sample data and even let you vote on this issue. But there are no results whatsoever. I spent days in June testing various things with Spotify. In the end, they offered me a month of premium as a thank you, but they couldn't guarantee it would be resolved within a month. I'm glad I didn't take that offer. It's all very disappointing.

I have been experiencing the same issue. I use the Spotify app on the Samsung tablet which is connected to the office wifi, and bluetooths to the sonos speaker. The first few songs play, then when it gets to an ad it stops . I have to press pause and play again to resume. I have tried all the troubleshooting recommendations; cleared cache, updating tablet and spotify app, uninstalled and reinstalled app, logged out of all devices, made sure the settings weren't set to battery saver etc. We have strong wifi in the office. This has only started happening a few months ago.

I don’t know why they won’t respond or anything like that for support this has been going on for a year or more at least and only happened to me recently
