Stuck Offline - Error Code 4 - Linux Desktop

Greetings,

My Ubuntu Desktop client has stopped being able to access online for a couple days at least.

I've searched similar topics, and I've tried everything on the FAQ:

https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/troubleshooting/connection-problem/

- tried restarting wifi

- reinstalling spotify client, and restarting

- wiping the configuration directory ~/.config/spotify, then re-installing, and restarting

- checked my firewall configuration (nothing has changed anytime related to when this stopped working)

I realize Linux isn't the most well supported distribution, but I have been a premium subscriber for over a year, would appreciate some more ideas on how to fix this.

Edit: Also, when starting spotify from terminal, this shows up:

And after logging in, this shows up in the terminal:

[0712/201034:ERROR:PlatformKeyboardEvent.cpp(94)] Not implemented reached in static bool blink::PlatformKeyboardEvent::currentCapsLockState()

Nothing appears in /var/log/syslog.

......... And I checked again 5 hours later, it seems to be fixed.  No idea what happened, but thanks!!

Edit: Spoke too soon, I restarted spotify and I'm back to the same error..

Hey @kkomw, welcome to the Spotify Community.

Keep in mind that we don't offer official support for the version of the app for Linux, but we'd recommend checking if your antivirus is blocking the Spotify app.

If it is, the best option is to remove it from the blocked list and try once again to use it.

Understood, Linux is not supported, so appreciate the response.

I don't actually have any antivirus software running, Linux rarely has a need for that.

I've also tried disabling my firewall, and using Spotify through my VPN, but no luck.

I'm able to use Spotify on my phone on the same wifi, so I'm beginning to suspect this is not a network issue, rather a bug in the spotify client.

Is it possible to confirm Spotify is working for anyone else on Linux with the latest client?

Edit:  I started monitoring the network traffic with tcpdump, it never appears to make a single web request when starting the client.  Sounds like there's a problem with the client detecting if there's a network connection.

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Can you try clearing up the cache and let us know if the issue persists? It's located in ~/.cache/spotify/.

Thanks  @MonicaM_Bogota, new error this time.  Wiped everything out and re-installed:

$> sudo apt-get purge spotify-client

$> rm -rf ~/.config/spotify

$> rm -rf ~/.cache/spotify

$> sudo apt-get update

$> sudo apt-get install spotify-client

Now I'm getting this:

"Service is temporarily unavailable, please try again later. (Error code 2)"

... progress? 😄

Edit: I'm in now 🙂 This post has a work around for me.

If I start the client with:

$> spotify --ap=194.132.196.162

I can successfully log in. I think I can take it from here.
