Support Google Assistant commands

I should be able to say:

  • "Ok Google"
  • "Play "Discover Weekly" playlist" or "Play "Starred" playlist"

And those "Discover Weekly" "Starred" playlist should start playing from Spotify.

At the moment thsoe commands simply open the Spotify app and do a search with the term "Discover Weekly playlist" or "Starred playlist" which is not usefull at all tbh.

More about "Google Actions" can be found here: https://developers.google.com/actions/  or a video that shows how to do it in 30 minutes

Thanks for clearing that up @SubzeroSC!

It seems that using Google Assistant to play playlists is not currently possible. You can only play specific songs, artists or genres. We'll pass this info to the relevant team to let them know it's something you'd like to see.

If anything else comes up, just give us a shout.

Cheers!

Hey @SubzeroSC!

Thanks for letting us know about this. We'd like to confirm what device, operating system and Spotify version you're using. Did you notice this after an app update or a certain event? We'll see what to suggest.

Keep us posted.

My device is

LG G6 using the Google Assistant app (long press on the home button)

Spotify version: 8.4.18.7.4.3

Android 7.0

When I say "Play my DISCOVER WEEKLY on Spotify" the Spotify app opens then it does a search for "Discover weekly" and starts the first song from the search. This is incorrect as it start not the top result which is my own Discover weekly playlist but a random song from other public playlists.

Hi @FabianS_Bogota,

Thank you for letting me know. I do not understand the status of this post tho, how come this is considered "Not and issue", when indeed it does bring light to an "issue" of not being able to play a playlist using a voice command for which Google has provided a way for third party apps to integrated easily. Isn't there a status more like "New functionality/feature".

trmptjuc

Why on earth would you not build in the functionality to play specific playlists? Please fix this.

GryffGraff

Yes please!! I would love to see Google assistant play my playlists on command.

bbheinz

This would be a great feature. Please add this!

in iOS, Spotify has the same reaction when asking to play specific songs, artists or genres. For me, is still useless... 😞

dikai289

how can I set shuffle play on/off by using google assistant?

sea41win

This is a real problem and cripples usage on Android Auto...which forced you to have to touch the screen to get any playlist to play.
