Usability bug for Facebook sign-in needing to update email address

Status: Closed

I sign in with facebook (username and pw are FB based) I need to update my notification email address In my account I change it, but then to make the change I have to confirm with a password....but the password I know is keyed to FB, it's not keyed to (I presume) your DB's (salted I'm sure 😉 ) local PW list. So I can't change my notifications. As it stands, when I leave this address I will lose notifications 😞

BTW this WYSIWYG text editor is atrocious.  All my formatting in my previous post was lost.

What username is shown when you got to this page?

https://www.spotify.com/account/overview/

'sgharms'

In that case you do have a Spotify account which must have its own password (true Facebook created accounts have numbers for usernames).

If you need a password reset:
1. Go to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/
2. If you get redirected to your online profile (where you need to current password to make the change), you are still logged into the website. Click on your name at the top and choose Log Out.
3. Return to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/ and enter that username rather then your email address to request a reset.

So that implies that I actually have two accounts?  Either of which, apparently, is sufficient fo authentication?

You only have one account. You have a Spotify created account with a username, which you have connected to Facebook. This allows you to log in using either your Spotify username or your Facebook details, but you are required to know the Spotify username password to make changes to the account.
