Volume control doesn't work with Sonos

My Question or Issue

This problem started only recently. Despite being able to control the Sonos volume from the Sonos app slider, I can't use the Spotify slider to control it accurately. It is delayed and then slides back and forth on its own, fluctuating the sound. I can't use the hardware volume control for either Spotify or Sonos. This happens whether I have the Spotify app open only or both the Spotify and Sonos apps.

THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN I AM PLAYING SPOTIFY THROUGH SONOS. If playing Spotify alone on my iPhone it works fine, with either the app or hardware volume controls. Same with using only Sonos.

I have the proper settings on for integrating Spotify and Sonos. Also to allow hardware volume control through my phone app. None have been charged from when this all worked. I've used both apps for years. This has never happened before.

I am using an iPhone 7, running iOS 12.3.

I have done a fresh install, I have 6 connect amps all hard wired to router. Both apps installed n the same day so they are the most recent version and the Sonos amps themselves on most recent firmware. All amps control perfectly from the Sonos app. They work ok at first from Spotify, then when left for a few seconds volume control & song selection lags considerably. Takes a minute or two to catch up. Switch back to Sonos app and all is fine again.

I am also having this issue. I have recently returned to Spotify from Apple Music to take advantage of Spotify connect in my Sonos system. Volume control is very flakey. When I first load up Spotify and connect it to the Sonos speakers it seems to work as expected, but after a short while it loses volume control. I seem to be able to restore it by force closing the Spotify app, but it will soon lose it again. 

 

I am using iOS 14 on an iPhone 11. Also an Apple Watch.

Do you mind providing some additional info, so we can have our developers look into it further:

  • exact Spotify app version
  • Sonos speaker model
  • Sonos firmware version
  • Sonos ID
  • Sonos diagnostic number (go into the Sonos app > settings > help > submit diagnostics)

sonos firmware version - not sure where to find this (build? 62188020)

Today I noticed that the issue isn’t happening with my Sonos Playbar which I rarely use for Spotify. So perhaps this issue is isolated to the Play1?

I have always had this problem since buying Sonos 5 years ago, always a huge delay in volume control or nothing at all and I will have to go and adjust volume on speaker manually. The recently though it does not work at all, I don’t even bother using my iPhone to adjust volume. Very frustrating.

Re-installing the App (iOS) did the trick for me. 

I had issues with volume control of Sonos speaker via Spotify connect but also with all other Spotify connect speaker I have. It’s definitely a Spotify issue. 

After the re-installation of the app everything works fine now!!

 

Still struggle to understand what the issue was though.  Must be a nightmare for support staff. 

also - could we not get a better device overview. I would like to hide my stupid TV and my streaming boxes from the list. There are so many devices there that I never use for Spotify and there is now way of making them disappear. @sporify dev teams. Please please please. Give it some love ❤️
