[WP8] Application Will Not Connect when Roaming or using a MVNO

Description:

Spotify on Windows Phone 8 (beta) can not connect when roaming or using a Mobile Virtual Network Operator.

 

To reproduce:

  • Attempt to use Spotify on Windows Phone 8 whilst roaming or using a MVNO. The application is unable to connect.

 

Workaround:

Use Spotify over WiFi and sync offline playlists. 

 

Additional information:

None.

 

If you are having this issue, can you please post:

  1. What phone you are using.
  2. Your Windows Phone 8 version. 
  3. Your Spotify app version.
  4. Your mobile operator.
  5. If you are roaming or using a MVNO.

2014-07-03: Reported fixed in [WP8] Spotify v3.1.

3. 2.0, core 0.6.4.113gf895e1a1
4. Tele2 Netherlands
5. I have roaming enabled otherwise I have no 3G cause tele2 is a MVNO.

Thinking about cancelling my premium subscription, until this problem is solved. There are way too many good alternatives. (f.e. Xbox Music)

5. I bought the Phone Simlock free and have to activate Roaming

You can switch to Djuice, which has the same price structure, but is fully owned by Telenor. I guarantee it will work.

I have the same problem on WP8.1 with the very last update (may 2014 update).

 

  1. Nokia Lumia 1320
  2. 8.10.12359.845
  3. 3.0.5243.11988 (did not work with 2.0 0.6.4.113gf895e1a1)
  4. Free Mobile, France
  5. Roaming sometimes on Orange

My operator has an agreement with Orange and roams when none of its antenna is available.

Not able to roam with Spotify (all other apps work with 3G & 4G) offline, since Spotify 3.0 I'm not even able to listen to downloaded songs offline... Grmbl...

  3. Your Spotify app version. 3.0.5246.30620
  4. Your mobile operator. Vodafone in Germany , roaming with VIP in Croatia (happens everywhere)
  5. If you are roaming or using a MVNO. roaming yes.. happens everywhiere in europe
