My Question or Issue

Since the last Spotify update it has crashed constantly. I can hardly make it through a song without it crashing. And it rapidly drains battery all of a sudden. And my background refresh is off. So I have tried restarting my phone, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as logging out and logging back in. None of this happened until this last update. Anyone else?

Hey there folks,

We really appreciate you sharing your reports in the Community.

Our teams are aware and working on this but they have done their magic backstage to help improve things in the meanwhile.

So you won't miss that and any further improvements in the app, we'd recommend making sure you're always rocking the latest version available for your device.

You can also try some common troubleshooting steps in case they do the trick for you:

  • A clean reinstallation of the app
  • If your device has some sort of low power mode or app, try disabling or whitelisting Spotify
  • Enable Background App Refresh from your phone's Settings > Spotify

Since we'll be updating this thread with any updates we have to pass on, we'd also suggest leaving your +VOTE and subscribing to this thread via the three-dot menu on the original post.

If you're curious about what the different Ongoing Issues statuses mean, check this Spotify Answer.

Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem. I have an iPhone XS Max updated to iOS 14.2 and the same issues still present. My phone's battery health is 97% and I've had this for almost 2 years now, never had an issue with the battery until this Spotify problem happened.

I can barely make it through one song before it force crashes. Tried all the troubleshooting methods (clean install/re-install, deleting cache, background app refresh toggling, etc.) but still to no avail.

It's worrisome because I use this app nearly every single day, I don't want to have to switch to another streaming site when this has worked wonders for me for more than 5 years. I hope you can fix it ASAP.

@Uudju

Thanks for showing the root of the problem. I have the same issue (48 seconds cpu time over 49 seconds (98% cpu average), exceeding limit of 80% cpu over 60 seconds)

Hopefully Spotify fixes this soon. It’s ruining the experience.

spotify ver: 8.5.84

iPhone 11 OS 14.1

The problem happens for me while offline (wifi off, cellular data off for spotify specifically) and while online (cellular data on for spotify). It persisted even after updating from 8.5.83 to 8.5.84

it seems to happen the most when I leave the app in the background, but it still eats my battery like crazy, regardless.

attached a photo at the top. when it was taken, i used spotify for 1hr 47mins.. which used 61% of my battery

I have the same issue. I have an Iphone 8 with iOS 14.2. My battery will drain very rapidly once I open Spotify.

@V3LVMUSIC Yea I hope they fix it soon, would hate to have to go to a different music streaming service.

I have premium on an iPhone 6s and it’s last update was just 3 days ago so it’s definitely the latest version and I’m experiencing all of the same problems except for battery drainage. Unless I just haven’t noticed idk. I’ve tried pretty much nothing but I came here to check before I uninstalled and had to re-download 4,000 songs if it ended up not helping at all.

The same thing is happening.to me with  y android. I'm paying for premium,  this is NOT ok

iPhone 11 Pro Max, Spotify premium, IOS version 14.2.  Can’t even get through one song, downloaded or not.

Same crashing issue with an iPad Air with iOS 12.4.8. The version of Spotify installed is 8.5.84.

I’ve been having the same issue this whole week. iphone X ios 14.2 same spotify version as everyone else on here. I can’t even make it through one song without the app crashing. The weird thing is it works perfectly fine on my laptop, i’m curious if this is the case for others as well? But it has been a huge inconvenience and customer support hasn’t been much help, I hope they fix this soon and refund us for the month.
