[iOS] Extreme battery drain on iPhone 5

Status: Fixed
0 Likes

Thread: 154996

Status: Fixed

Description:

Spotify seems to drain the battery on some iPhones

Additional information:

From the original thread:

"I have the premium service and have noticed a significant battery drain when using Spotify as compared to my iPhone 4. Is it just me?

I've optimized my phone to conserve power as much as possible already. Brightness, push/fetch, location, turned off cellular for spotify... Still. It drains really fast."

Hey  Per,

I started the original iphone 5 battery drain thread. You just locked out my thread and started this new bug section asking for more details.

HOW MANY MORE DETAILS DO YOU NEED?

If you read the original thread which is now almost four months old the information is repetitive and the same. It is up to you the developers to:

A -acknowledge that this is a serious bug that is affecting more than just a few users (your previous language was passive and not definitive at all)

B- update us regularly and eventually solve the issue with an update. We paid money for bad service and now you owe us weekly updates in my opinion.

THIS NEW THREAD FEELS LIKE A CHEAP WAY TO HIDE ALL OF THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FROM THE ORIGNAL THREAD (from new / potential customers that don't know about this SERIOUS PROBLEM)

hopey

Still drains battery also on my iphone 4s.

It drains battery on my iPhone 5 like crazy. It is only happening when I'm playing local files from spotify. I understand that streaming consumes a lot of battery, but 8-10% per hour just for plying offline files is ridiculous. Everyone of my friends with an iPhone 5 has the same issue with spotify...

Hello,

I have the same problem, it's happening on both iPhone 5 and iPad 3rd gen

iOS: 6.1 and 6.0.1

it doesn't matter if I have playlist offline or im using the offline mode. The battery drains out in a few hours, I can listed music on another services or in iTunes and the battery stays perfect for all the day long.

Also I notice that the device starts heating up a bit, like if it was processing information all time or converting.

Current subscription status: canceled waiting for a fix To this issue.

Kind regards

Not sure if this helps at all but I experiennce this on my Droid Razr as well. To the point that closing out of Spotify causes it to continue running and drain my battery when not in use. Didn't see a thread dedicated to battery drain on Android so thought I would try posting here.

Hey Per,

I have to apologize for being so aggressive with my last post. I am not retracting what I said or what i feel is your responisibility as a business.... but I realize that i am really angry more at myself becuase i continue to pay for service that I don't want or am not getting. Why be mad at you guys if I am the one choosing to pay for bad service?

Luckily I can simply keep all of my playlists and discontinue my premium service. I can live with not being able to play songs on the subway.

Hopefully you guys can fix this probablem and I'd be happy to sign up again for premium.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you guys can fix it.

Peace

- J

As stated in the previous thread, I have the issue with the App on my iPhone 5.

Battery drains at 20% an hour when listening to locally sync tracks (even in offline mode).

After 3 months, I stopped using Spotify and became Premium on Deezer (service is not as good but battery usage is normal).

I'm experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 5 playing locally saved tracks for offline. I never stream; I sync everything I want to listen to. However, it is almost guaranteed you'll drain your battery completely using Spotify on the go. You NEED a car charger or a place to charge at work. I'm surprised, my experience with Spotify when I had an HTC One X was great; had no battery issues. I also notice that if I put the iPhone in airplane mode the battery doesn't drain as much in fact, it was actually closer to that supposed "40 hrs" of music playback Apple advertises for the phone. But when I take airplane mode off, the extreme battery drain returns! Please, fix! I can't take not being on twitter while listening to music becuase I have to put my phone on airplane mode so that Spotify doesn't consume the living hell out of my battery! But hey, this is a good problem guys. Excuse this rant now but, we really have it good compared to others who may be sick or starving. The only reason I am posting this here is because um, I am paying Spotify $10 dollars a month?

Finally got around to cancelling my premium service.

Please address and fix the battery issue and I'd be happy to resubscribe.

I also have this problem on my 4S and I have had it for every update since I downloaded the app a year and a half ago.

Just today, I played one synced song lasting four and a half minutes and my battery life fell by 3%. Normally, it drains roughly 20% per hour, as mentioned by other posters.

Offline mode allows for slightly longer playback, but the drain is still very apparent.
