[iOS] High battery drain with Spotify on iPhones with iOS versions 14.8 and 15.0

Hey folks,

Thanks for your reports about battery drainage while updating from iOS 14.8 to .15 on both firmware versions during the past days.

We’ve passed your info on to the relevant team and we can confirm they are currently looking into it.

If you’re experiencing this issue, make sure to click +VOTE and Subscribe to the thread to be notified of any developments.

Aside from trying restarting and/or a clean reinstall of the app, it'd be great if you'd give disabling Background App Refresh a shot: this could be found under Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh.

Thanks! We’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this.

Good news!

There’s a new version (8.6.64) of Spotify available in the App Store. The latest version includes fixes and improvements that should eliminate the stability and performance issues affecting a subset of iOS users.

If you have automatic updates switched on, you should have the newest version shortly.  If not, you’ll have to update the App manually. You can find step-by-step instructions for updating Spotify here.

Both downloaded and not downloaded. App just crashes after 30 seconds no matter what is playing, locked or unlocked phone, on the app or on another app. Wi-Fi and data, doesn’t matter. In 5 years as a user I’ve never encountered this issue.
Brand new iPhone 12, occurred after last Spotify update two days ago, updated to iOS 14.7 then 15 and the issue persosts. Did the same on an old iPhone 11 and Spotify works fine

I'm having the same issue but with an iPhone X. The app crashes when I'm listening to a podcast or a playlist and I lock the phone or use another app.

Hi @whodatsam,

Thank you for posting on the Community and welcome.

It's unfortunate that your app is having this behavior, but we'll be here to help you sort it out.

It seems like you haven't reinstalled the app, so please run a clean reinstall, as this one is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

In case this doesn't do the trick, try running your phone with the Battery Saving setting off, do you notice any difference?

Keep us posted.

As I wrote in my original post, I have already run the clean reinstall using those instructions. I have also switched on and off battery saving mode. Both of those things I mentioned in my original post. I would appreciate a little more care and attention to your customers' concerns. I've noticed a common trend across all of these threads where your responses never take into account all of the information people are putting into their posts, and most of your recommendations are for steps that people, including myself, have also taken. I will say that I did just try using someone else's account on my phone and it worked fine. Hopefully this information will inspire some more creative solutions on your end and you won't recommend more steps I have already taken.

I have the exact same issue

Same issue here on my iPhone 6S, iOS Ver. 14.4, Spotify Version 8.6.62.1035. Before I updated the app two days ago, the app had run properly.

Aside from trying restarting and/or a clean reinstall of the app, it'd be great if you'd give the following a shot:

  • Disable Background App Refresh for now; this could be found under Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh
  • Disable Raise to Wake. Settings > Display & Brightness
  • Use Low Power mode. Settings > Battery
  • Close out unused apps through the app switcher
  • Turn off any widgets you aren't using much
  • Dim the brightness a little manually; you could also disable auto-brightness in the meantime

If nothing worked, please post and let us know the following info:

  • Country
  • iPhone model and iOS version
  • Spotify version
  • Screenshot of their battery usage in the last 24-48 hours, this could be seen under Settings > Battery

Thanks! We’ll keep you posted and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this.

Whenever I start using Spotify, battery starts draining very fast. Basicly Im all the time wired and charging the phone... Problem begun with the last update of Spotify (8.6.62.1035). I suppose it is not fault of new iOS, because at the beginning it was perfect. Please do not tell me those bullshits again. I tried to clean install iOS15, reinstalled Spotify 2 times and all the settings you mentioned I use all the time. I contacted Spotify support and that **bleep** told me to reinstall app again 🙂 :-).

I would appreciate if you fixed this problem really fast, because Im considering changing platform - I dont think that apple music has this problems... We are paying for Spotify and we got unstable app that is destroying our batteries? Seriously????

Thanks

Mario

Hey @zavackyo ,

Thanks for you reply!

Writing to confirm we're doing our best to get this fixed as quickly as possible 🙂

The trouble-shooting we're suggesting is a fair cautionary measure to confirm the nature of the issue at hand, which makes the whole process of resolving it easier and quicker.

Also remember to have your tone of voice aligned to our guideline standards (in particular .8) when posting in the Community.

Thank you!

Same for me. I just use spotify exactly 13 minutes, lost 8% for listening a
podcast I DOWNLOADED on my device.

Spotify is inusable like that !!!
