[iOS] Performance and battery - Individual reports

Investigation of individual reports of unexpected performance and battery behavior with Spotify on iOS.

Hey folks,

 

Writing to confirm this should be fixed for sometime now! We waited to monitor any potential new reports and take action, but it's safe to say everything is looking good.

@Novy My battery usage from Spotify has been lower over the past 10 days (13%) but it was still accounting for way more background activity than I would consider normal (20h 56 min).

 

My background refresh for Spotify is still off but this morning I noticed that the Devices Lock Screen setting was turned on within the Spotify app. I'm pretty sure was causing the crazy amount of background activity for me and will be monitoring whether it has any effect on battery life over the coming days.

Thank you for posting in this topic.

 

As we're dealing with individual cases, while the app is working as expected for the majority of the users, we need more in-depth data from each individual scenario in order to report these instances of battery drain.

 

This means that for anyone experiencing this to please share a 5-10 minute video switching between the battery stats and the app, screenshots of the monthly battery usage stats from the iOS settings and confirmation of how much is the battery drained normally vs when the phone is set to airplane mode (example: 10% vs. 8% in airplane mode).


@zavackyo and @shazzahllala  - if possible, please record a 5-10 minute video switching between the battery stats and the app. Upload it to a sharing platform of your choice and let us know, we'll forward them for investigation.

 

Please also share screenshots of your monthly battery usage stats from your iOS settings.

 

Lastly, can you confirm if the battery is still drained, even when the phone is set to airplane mode?

I’m not sure if I’m having the battery issue but as of this morning I’m having the issue with the app crashing in the background when my phone is locked. All of those threads redirect here so I’ll post my comment here. I tried the clean/full reset/redownload of the app, as well as restarting my phone but that has not worked. If this isn’t resolved soon I’ll be cancelling my subscription as it looks like other people have been having similar issues since August and weren’t reimbursed for the months the app was essentially unusable.

😕 i started having exactly the same issue after updating to the latest app version 8.6.80 I installed today.

the app is crashing when running on background or when the phone is locked.

but the most importantly, my phone became extremely hot that it was not comfortable holding it on my hand so i laid it over cold floor tile.

the battery drained 27% in 30 mins and the light strength is set on minimum, with dark mode on.

Oh yes, background crashes are back! 

I am not aware any update to iPhone or Spotify since yesterday. Yes, I have cleared cache and booted phone.

But no worries - music plays very nicely from Tidal!

 

Update: Removed and installed Spotify and now works again.

Spotify started to crash in the background for me today (it never happened for me before). No iOS nor Spotify update from yesterday from my side and yesterday it was working well.

 

When the app is in the front, it works well for long time.

 

After the crashes I tried to uninstall app, clear cache, install again but crashes continue to appear. iPhone reset also didn’t help.

Hey again folks,

We see some new reports here from the 18.11.21 by @mety , @JounPeikko , @kozogren and @Bobin20.  Could you folks confirm to us, that the issue is still present at the current moment?  If yes, then please gather and share with us the info I have mentioned in my previous comment on this thread, as this is crucial for reporting and investigating these individual situations further.

Hi @Kiril Like I put on my update - no issue atm. New day and/or reinstalling the Spotify app helped.
