iOS app crashing when opening Spotify-curated playlists

We're getting reports that the Spotify app on iOS devices is crashing when opening Spotify-curated playlists like Discover Weekly and song radios.

Hey folks,

As some of you already noticed, this is now fixed.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Cheers,

Hi I have just started having this issues as well. Did this resolve for anyone?

Giugio

I’m having the same issue and I did everything listed. Absolutely everything. I’m on IPhone 8. Everything is up to date. What now?

My Question or Issue

When I use the "Go to Song Radio" feature for songs I've already "Song Radio-ed" before, the app crashes. I can only use the "Go to Song Radio" button for songs I've never "Song Radio-ed" before. This also happens if I try and access a previous Song Radio from the Home screen. This issue doesn't seem to happen on my wife's iPhone 13.

I've tried clearing the cache and removing my downloaded songs using the buttons within the Spotify app.

I first started noticing this bug on the 14th of Jan.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Ivelina

Hello @RascalOvertone,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community and for the details!

Kudos for already clearing the cache - this helps resolve different performance issues with Spotify and is a great starting step. Just to be on the safe side, I recommend also going for a clean reinstall with the steps here in case it makes a difference.

Additionally, test with the following:

  • Another network connection (mobile data/Wi-Fi) - the app may not be loading correctly.
  • If the song-based radio playlists are saved in Your Library, try to access them from there.
  • Log in to your account on your wife's phone (if you were testing with her account there).
  • Toggle Off Show unplayable songs within Spotify's Settings > Content and display.

We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Hi Ivelina,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried all those steps but unfortunately I'm still seeing the same bug, even if I click through from the My Library tab or connect via a different network connection.

I'm also not seeing this issue when I log into my account on my wife's phone.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Ivelina

Thanks for the quick response and for your efforts @RascalOvertone.

As this doesn't persist on your wife's phone with your account, then this leads me to believe the issue is probably device-related. With this in mind, consider giving these additional steps a go whenever you can:

  • Make sure you've got enough storage on your phone.
  • Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Spotify > toggle Off Background App Refresh.
  • In Spotify's Settings > Playback > toggle Off Enable Audio Normalization.
  • Disable all audio enhancements in Spotify's Settings > Playback (Crossfade - Set to 0s, Gapless Playback, Automix).
  • Log out > back in twice in a row for a refresh.

Lastly, you could also test with being logged in to your account both on your phone and wife's phone. On your wife's phone, head over to one of the playlists which usually crashes, start playback there then using the Connect feature, check your phone to see if it shows it's playing on the other device and try to take over the payback, as well as access the playlist.

Hope to hear from you soon and let us know if you've got any questions in the meantime.

My Issue

Almost the same as in original topic. On my phone Discover Weekly will crash all of Spotify immediately upon opening. When tapping Discover Weekly while music is playing it instantly sounds corrupted and app crashes.

Cleaning cache, logout, uninstall, reboot didn't help.

Unfollow Discover Weekly, cleaning cache, logout, uninstall, reboot didn't help.

My Question or Issue

For the last several days, none of my radios play for specific Artists, I can search up specific artists and play all songs from them and other playlists, but none of my radios play, I will click on them and they’ll start to load and the app will shut down immediately. I’ve restarted the app, deleted and redownloaded app. Cleared cache and data and reloaded in. I’ve restarted my phone. I can play everything but my artist/song specific radios that generate based on what I like to listen to. Help please!

Hi Ivelina,

I have tried all those steps but unfortunately none of them worked for me.

When I connected the two devices, I was able to skip songs, pause etc on my iPhone 8 and view the song queue but as soon as I tried to open the Song Radio playlist that was currently playing, the app crashed.

Are you able to raise this with the team to fix?
