"publish my activity" automatically turns off

My friends can't see what I'm lisening to, and I keep turning on my "publish my activity on spotify' button in settings, but they still can't see and everytime I close the app it resets and says I have it turned off. Is there any way to keep it on?

Could you try the steps we sent in previous messages? Also, can you let us know what device, operating system, and version of Spotify you're using?

My Spotify version is "1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc (Windows Store version)".

And yes I logged into my friend's device (a different desktop) and the same issue occurred.

I had the same issue. Deleting spotify (including the cache files) and reinstalling worked for me.

I tried that as well (ie. a clean reinstall) but the issue is not gone.

Hi I am having the exact same problem. Nothing I play appears on my recently played, and when I adjust any of the Social settings, it doesn't actually update. I try to turn on "Publish my Activity" but nothing gets published and when I log of and log in, the option has turned gray again.

I am having the same problem, I cannot update my social settings. It keeps turning off when I log in and log off. And nothing gets updated.

Even my recently played is blank and does not update!!!

Same issue is going on for me. Whenever I close the app on my mac, it automatically turns back off when I already put it on "publish my activity on spotify". It's really bugging me cause I'd prefer it on and it just turns off whenever it decides to. Please fix this issue.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for getting back to us with more info.

Let's try launching the Spotify app as the administrator to see if the "Publish my activity on Spotify" remains on.

If that doesn't help, let's try one last time a clean reinstall. However, before reinstalling the app, head to ~:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\, and manually delete any Spotify folders. You might need to modify your Windows folder settings to allow you to view hidden folders to do this.

Let us know how it goes.

Reinstalled the app on laptop, no improvement - same result. The button "Publish my activity on Spotify" turns off when I close the app and opens it again.

On the iPhone app however, the button stays on.

Hey @Alfredo,

Before I got the chance to try any of the methods you listed, I actually got a chance to try it out on yet another device (a different desktop). For some reason the settings actually saved after closing the app. So now on my laptop (first device) the new settings are shown but I can't turn them off LOL

It's okay for me because I did want to turn them off but I don't think the issue is solved yet. Perhaps someone else can try the instructions you gave and see if they have any luck.
