"publish my activity" automatically turns off

My friends can't see what I'm lisening to, and I keep turning on my "publish my activity on spotify' button in settings, but they still can't see and everytime I close the app it resets and says I have it turned off. Is there any way to keep it on?

Hey folks,

The team have been looking into things here.

The issue where "publish my activity" automatically turns off should be fixed.
If you're still having trouble, make sure you're running the latest version of the app.

We're closing this one up now, but we've noticed a few comments regarding the Friend Feed not updating.
Rest assured this is being looked at here.

Thanks again,

/M

That's odd!

As @Alfredo said, we couldn't replicate the issue from our end. If you have the chance, could you check if the same thing happens from a different Windows device?

Keep us posted.

I have checked my other (private)windows laptop and the problem does not occur with that device only on my job windows laptop. It might have something to do with cache files?

I'm having the same problem on my Windows 10 machine. I uninstalled (this also deleted all cache files in AppData/Local) and installed a new version from Microsoft Store (my previous version was from a downloaded installer). This did not fix it. It seems that ALL of the social settings in that settings section do not persist between sessions, i.e. "Automatically make new playlists public" and "Show my current Top Artists".

Hello,

I am also having this problem. My account is linked to my Facebook and the "publish my activity" setting automatically turns off when adjusting it on my laptop, desktop, and work computer. I have done a clean install on Windows 10 as well. I had previously turned it off awhile ago (I think I did so via Facebook so that it would not publish on there). Is it something perhaps with the permissions from my Facebook account?

Thanks!

im also still having the same issues on mac, even once reinstalled

Hey everyone!

Just to confirm, does everyone have administrator access to the devices you're using Spotify with? This could be related to the access your user has to the devices, since it seems the app can't modify the settings from the installed folder.

Also, could everyone check if the Spotify folder under ~:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local is set to Read-Only?

Keep us posted.

I've got the same problem.

I'm on Windows 10 and my current spotify version is 1.0.77.338.g758ebd78

For whatever reason logging out, logging back in (both with facebook or with my U/N & Password) are not solving this problem. I checked settings on my iPhone to see if perhaps I had a settting on there that is overriding the desktop app, but that wasn't the case either.

@Alfredo
Running in admin or not, did not change anything.

However, checking AppData, both Spotify folders in roaming and local were on read only. Ticking them on or off has not changed anything. It's just not rendering the selection and remembering it for some reason.

Thanks for the info @NIC001@theprash@mboey0613@henrychamberlai and @shuac!

Could you make sure there are no restrictions on your internet connection like a firewall? If you haven't tried it before, clear cache/cookies and make sure there are no updates available for the app.

Also, do you remember if this started happening after a specific update or event?

Hope to hear from you soon.

The windows firewall was enabled of course, but temporarily disabling it did not allow me to change the setting. Running as admin did not help either.

This is the first time I've tried to enable the setting after disabing it years ago.

I've noticed that I can't find the setting on the mobile app (I haven't connected to Facebook or Last.fm). That seems strange.
