window layout broken on living room pc with high dpi

The layout of the Spotify main window is broken on my configuration since the 1.0.75.483 update a week ago. The problem seems to relate to high dpi settings. The PC is a Windows 7 x86 Swedish version with all updates, Full HD screen (1920x1080) and Custom DPI set to 200% for best use as living room system (see https://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-a-better-view-in-windows-7-by-adjusting-dpi...).

The Spotify problem probably has to do with minimum window sizes that become unexpectedly large on high Custom DPI settings.

I tried to post screenshots but are getting various errors from this board. The problem is that the play bar is getting clipped on initial startup. It can be resolved by cycling window maximize/restore.

I finally managed to post one screenshot above. It shows the full screen (note that task bar is in auto-hide mode), the Spotify window is not possible to shrink further, and Spotify's play bar is clipped.

Hey @mikewse!

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Just to confirm, are you able to see the play/pause and progress bar if you re-size the window to be smaller after Spotify launches?

Also, is this only happening when you modify the DPI to 200%?

Keep us posted.

Hi @Alfredo, thanks for reaching back. After some more investigation I'm pretty sure this is what's happening:

With standard text size / DPI (100%) on Windows 7, the Spotify main window has a set minimum size of 800x600 pixels. You can't use the mouse to make the window smaller than that.

When you scale the desktop experience using the DPI setting you will also scale the minimum size. With 200% DPI, Spotify's minimum size will be 1600x1200, which is narrower but higher than my full hd screen 1920x1080.

Trying to resize the window in "restored" (windowed) mode only works horisontally where there is still space with respect to the min setting (1600 <-> 1920). Vertical adjustment does not work and the play bar is permanently clipped as the bottom part of the window is permanently outside the desktop area.

Going into fullscreen mode the second time will show a correct layout. I guess fullscreen may override the window min setting if it's outside the fullscreen area.

Your devs should adjust the window min size so it doesn't have to be larger than 800x600 no matter what DPI setting is used.

Hey @mikewse, thanks for the info!

We've recently released a new update for the app. Could you follow these steps and make sure you're using the latest version?

Let us know if the app behaves the same way.

mikewse

Yes, I am already running the new version 1.0.77.338.g758ebd78 since yesterday. I was also affected by the media keys volume control bug so I was eager to update 😉

The layout is still broken in the new version.

Thanks for the update @mikewse.

Could you send over a video showing the exact steps you're taking to recreate the issues you're mentioning? We'll take a closer look to see what we can do next.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Ok so I recorded a video on a computer with Windows 10 (latest updates) as it may be more useful for you, and easier to find a machine to reproduce on. Display is 1920x1080 and same issue appears as on Windows 7. Video attached and I illustrate layout by zooming in and out with ctrl +/-.
