My Question or Issue
I setup my mums new amazon echo dot and linked her spotify premium account to it (recently upgraded it to premium as needs to be premium to work on Alexa).
it worked originally when asked to play a generic playlist - eg “play 60s music”, however now the problem is that whenever she/I ask it to play a particular song, artist or any other music, Alexa repeats the correct song requested, but then keeps playing the same playlist it was on previously.
If I open spotify on her phone then I can change tracks successfully, but it seems that Alexa isn’t able to - it just keeps playing whatever it was on!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
This is now just happening to me! It says the new requested artist i want but still goes on playing previous music. So frustrating as the whole reason I have the echo is for hands free listening.
has anyone figured out long term solution?
(it works after disabling/enabling spotify, but only works one time).
Hey folks,
Thanks for reaching out to us 🙂
We'd suggest you give these steps a go and run a clean reinstall. That way you can make sure the app is up-to-date and the cache is not causing this issue.
It's also a good idea to disconnect the Spotify account in the Alexa App or on desktop here. Then you can log out of the Alexa app and reconnect.
If that doesn't help, it's a good idea to set Spotify as a default device.
Let us know how it goes. If you have questions, you know where to find us.
Hi there @Luis_1979,
Thanks for getting in touch and trying our suggestions.
Give these steps a try and let us know how it goes:
1. Unlink your Spotify and Alexa accounts. Find how here.
2. Turn your Alexa device off.
3. Restart your router by unplugging it from power for at least 15 seconds.
4. Log out from your Spotify account, restart your phone, and log back in.
5. Turn on your Alexa device and link your accounts again.
Also, make sure you're running the latest version of the apps.
We hope this does the trick. Keep us posted.
I have tried all the suggestions and it still doesn't work. It will work for one song and then go back to not working. I got the Alexa for Christmas and it only worked for about a week before this started happening. It's so frustrating 😞 I even tried rebooting the Alexa before reinstalling Spotify but no good.
Hey there @Charlotte901,
Thanks for reaching out about this, and welcome to the Community 🙂
Would you mind letting us know if you notice anything new after unlinking and re-linking your accounts by following these steps?
We'd also recommend making sure that your devices are up to date.
Keep us posted. We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Hi, yes, I have tried that. Although the steps say the menu is at the top left of the screen and mine is bottom right. I am on the latest versions of the apps. I've unlinked and linked multiple times and it only works for one song...😢
Hey @Charlotte901,
Thanks for getting back in touch.
Just to confirm, did you already try restarting your router? Also, make sure to set Spotify as the default music service to see if that makes any difference.
If the issue persists, could you try linking another account, like a friend's or relative's, and give it a try to see if the same happens? This would help us determine if this is account-related.
Keep us in the loop.
You gotta be kidding dude. Is this the solution? Try to restart all the devices? Its an software problem, thats sure, restarting everything in the house wont help. Is this why the **bleep** why pay for you services?
I have the same problem with a stuck playlist but on a PC desktop, not Alexa. I was listening to a large playlist, decided to search for another playlist and played a couple of songs, then went back to the original playlist, and now it's stuck on the 2nd playlist and I have to hand select every song on the original playlist, or spotify will automatically default to the 2nd playlist that I no longer wanted to listen to. I removed it from my library, un-"hearted" it, Spotify tried to update itself, I cleared my cache on my system, nothing helped. I am told I need to uninstall and re-install Spotify, but I get it for free because I'm a verified Spotify Artist, so I'm hoping I can still get it free when I re-install
