Echo Dot playing last played sobg instead of requested music

My Question or Issue

We have recently purchased a gen 2 echo dot for another room in the house. When we say 'Alexa, play xyz' she replies 'playing xyz from spotify' and then continues to play the last song played. This may have been through our phone that we have then sent to the dot or requested through the dot itself. This is inconsistent and often works perfectly but occasionally just refuses to change until we alter the song on another device and then send to the dot.

I have the exact same problem with an Echo Dot Gen 3.. Did not find a solution yet.

I also have this issue on my 3rd gen echo dot, the only way I've managed to get it to temporarily work is to keep un-linking and re-linking my Spotify account to Alexa. would love a permanent fix
