My Question or Issue

We have a Sonos Play1 which worked fine with Spotify for years. Roughly 2 weeks ago, when playing back Spotify playlists the stream stops after 2-4 songs. Curious what was going on, I captured network traffic and found that the Spotify API apparently sends back TCP RESET packets after said few songs. Sometimes the stream can be recovered/restarted but most times it would just fail.

Streaming of TuneIn Radio or Sonos Radio works fine without interruption. It only happens with Spotify.

Does anyone else encounter this? Did something change with the Spotify Streaming Endpoints maybe?

Hey @Logishort,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community.

We're sorry to hear you're having troubles with your Sonos device. As a first step, could you please make sure that Autoplay is turned on in the settings menu of the app? If that doesn't fix things, we recommend that you unlink your Spotify account from the Sonos app and perform a clean reinstall of both apps. You can find the steps for Spotify here. After that you can link the account anew. This page can help with that. Make sure to restart bot devices before running the freshly installed apps.

Hope you find this useful. Keep us posted how you get on.

Hi,
I did that. Reset Sonos and set it up completely from scratch. Spotify keeps stopping after 4 songs repeatably. 🤷‍♂️
The box is connected via cable and internet is working fine.
Any other suggestions?

Hey @Logishort,

Thanks for getting back to us and for keeping us in the loop.

Does this happen when you try to connect to Sonos from another device? Could you share with us the make, model, OS version and Spotify version of the devices this is happening on? If you have the option to borrow a friend or family members account and see if the issue comes up there as well, that would also help the troubleshooting process a lot. We'd also appreciate a screenshot of the autoplay option in the setting menu. Lastly, does this always happen after exactly 4 songs? Did this appear after a certain event, like an update or installing a new app?

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi,

I am using the latest Sonos app on iOS 14.2 on an iPhone 12 Pro and and an iPhone 11. sonos is configured with the Spotify service integration. Occasionally we also use a Mac book pro 13 inch with Big Sur 11.1 and the Sonos app. This shows the same behavior.

Streaming from the Spotify app is very error prone in that it often times shows the device but does not start streaming. Only after the 4th try or so it would start streaming, sometimes it starts right away.

In the case of using the Sonos app my assumption is that the Sonos box itself acts as the Spotify client?

Hi again @Logishort

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

We'd recommend making sure that your speaker is up to date and running it's latest firmware version.

You can also perform a clean reinstall of the Spotify app following these steps. This is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful for clearing any cache that might be causing issues.

Let us know how it goes. We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
