Spotify Funds Bands?

I was wondering if listening to music on spotify gives money to the bands. (By which I mean the band memebers, not just the record company.) I found a band I really like, and I want to support them, but I can't afford to buy their album (yet). So I can either listen to it on Youtube which for sure will give them nothing, or listen to it on Spotify. If Spotify doesn't give money to the members then I'd rather listen to them on Youtube where I don't have to hear ads.
