i  recently had to restore my desktop back to factary just to clean (etc) and im having the same problem. but im using the free version of my account, come to think of it this shouldn't be happening at all it be great if we could get some f***king help here!!!

Also having problems. May have to cancel my other premium account if this keeps up.

What a mess.

Hi, Linux distro?, browser, error message? please.
Thanks!

It works on Google Chrome and Firefox (if you enable DRM content in content settings) on Linux. If you want to use Chromium or some other chrome based browser like Opera you have to install widevine for your specific browser.

Screenshot from 2017-06-24 16-12-47.png

As it can be seen here, I've enabled DRM content playbac, and I have the widevine plugin installed and activated. Simply stating that it works when it doesn't is not very helpful. Clearly something else must be missing... Any help is appreciated.

/h

I've been unable to use the spotify web player for months now due to this DRM thing.

Chrome, Windows, options enabled, doesn't matter, can't use it.

Why was this forced on everyone, and why is it so broken?

It works on older versions of the browser, now I have different browser just for spotify!

This should really work and I have no idea why it doesn't, because I don't use Ubuntu, but it works for me on Windows 10, Fedora and Arch. I hope you tried fully closing Firefox and restarting it after ticking the DRM box. And it may ask you in the address bar do you really want to enable DRM playback.

Hey Spotify!

I've been paying you money for years, and now I'm getting messages saying that I can't play music because of DRM issues. DRM is the worst idea ever dreamt up. Why are you forcing this **bleep** on your users? Sadly, if you keep demanding I add broken, proprietary modules to my browser I guess I'm going to have to cancel my Premium subscription.

Easy solution, Firefox.

In my case I tried with both Firefox and Chromium. I also rebooted the machine to no avail.
I did this on an Asus laptop.

Later on I did a very similar installation on a Macbook Pro, but if I remember correctly, I checked the "install third party software" which may have been why it worked flawlessly on this installation.

My theory is that the error message presented in the Spotify player is not due to missing drm support but another missing component.

@henrik242 You probably right. Just to be sure and to troubleshoot this, as far as I know:

This is the list of package dependencies:

"alsa-lib>=1.0.14" "gconf" "gtk2" "glib2" "nss" "libsystemd" "libxtst" "libx11" "libxss" "openssl-1.0" "libcurl-compat" "desktop-file-utils" "rtmpdump"

And my list of shared libraries required by spotify:

I am also experiencing this issue:

OS: Centos 6.9, Centos 7.3

Browser: Firefox 52.2.0 (64bit)

* Widevin Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.: Always Activate

Would it be possible to get some traction on this issue please?

Microsoft Windows Vista Chrome
Microsoft Windows 7 Chrome /Firefox
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Chrome/Firefox/Edge
Microsoft Windows 10  Chrome/Firefox/Edge
Mac OS X Lion Chrome/Firefox
Mac OS X Yosemite Safari/Firefox
macOS Sierra Safari/Firefox
.......................................................

I'm sorry brahjma, I will answer in English as I dont speak Spanish.

It seems silly to me that you are claiming that Linux systems are unsupported to play DRM content, even though we have all the necessary requirements.

1) Audio playback was working fine up until this recent change made by the Spotify team to "attempt" to migrate from Flash to HTML5.

2) Using the exact same browser to play music on other similar website using the same "DRM Features" such as Google Play Music works without issues.

It is one thing to admit that the Spotify team lacks the necessary staff/talent to support GNU/Linux operating systems, but quite another to claim that they are unsupported due to DRM restrictions (when this is clearly not the case).

If this is truly something that is not a priorty, no problem, I will simply take my money elsewhere.

Best regards,

You are using an unsupported system configuration. Firefox 52.x is relative new supporting DRM.

You can check the System Requeriments for the Spotify web player: https://support.spotify.com/us/article/spotify-system-requirements/

If you are still intereseted in give some support you can use this url to debug your own config: https://shaka-player-demo.appspot.com

I'm not too sure what you are talking about, Firefox is on the supported list of browsers...

The following is the list of browsers that can run the Spotify web player service:

  • Safari 6 or above.
  • Internet Explorer 11 or above.
  • Google Chrome (latest).
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest or the immediately previous version).
  • Opera 12 or above.
  • Yandex 1 or above.
