Why can't my friends edit our collaborative playlist?

I started a collaborative playlist and shared with friends via WhatsApp and Facebook messages. Pretty sure I did this exactly per Spotify instructions. 

Friends say they can not add songs.
What's the solution?

If your friends are unable to edit your collaborative playlist, be sure to remind them that they need follow your collaborative playlist first.

They can only edit (remove/add) songs if they are a follower of the playlist.
