My Question or Issue

Hello everyone.  I am trying to link Spotify to my Echo dot but I am going round in circles, and the instructions on the spotify website are not correct for my device.  The Alexa app I am using is on my Amazon Fire tablet.  When I try to link the account, instead of providing me a way to log into my spotify account, it displays a QR code and says to scan it.  But there is no way that I know of to scan a QR code from within the Alexa app.  I have tried using a seperate device to scan the code but that just brings up a message saying "unable to link the account at this time".  How do I get past this?  Any help would be much appreciated as I have now been trying for weeks to link this account.

Thanks for reaching out.

We'd first suggest making sure that both the Alexa app and your Fire tablet’s OS are fully updated. 

Also, make sure you're logged into the correct Amazon and Spotify accounts on both your tablet and the other device you're trying to use to scan the code, just to see if the error disappears.

I'm using a similar setup - a new fire HD 10 tablet, amazon echo dot. I am experiencing the same issues. both are updated. So is the device I'm using to scan the QR code. I am logged into my spotify account on the phone used to scan, and in my tablet.

We’d recommend using the Spotify Connect option from the mobile app, instead of scanning the QR code you're mentioning, to see if it makes any difference. In the mobile app, go to the song/episode you want to play, once it's reproducing, click the Spotify Connect option in the playback view (the one highlighted in the image) and then select your Amazon Fire tablet. 

You can also try all the process from a different device or using other internet connections (like a different Wi-Fi network, mobile data, mobile hotspot).
