Hey @Stuxm and the rest,

Currently you need your iPhone nearby if you'd like to use the Apple Watch. You keep your earphones connected to your iPhone and use the Apple Watch as a remote.

Hope this clears some things up. Let us know if you have further questions.

Hey man-

I could be wrong on this, but I just got an Apple Watch 4 as well, and I cannot stream to the device either UNLESS my phone is on and nearby. I can stream music to my Airpods and my Bose Soundsport Headphones that I imported on to the Apple Watch from my iTunes library, but I cannot stream from Spotify or iHeart Radio. All that to say, I believe it's a limitation of the Spotify App.

I have the exact same problem.

I can only play from my iwatch into my phone no matter which Bluetooth devices are paired with the watch the Spotify app only shows me the phone.

Very disapointing.

I hope they solve this issue soon other wise the app for the watch is pointless.

I’ve found it will connect to the headphones through the iPhone ( if you connect headphones through your iPhone settings)  and then you can use Spotify from your watch.  However this means I have to have my iPhone on me all the time when I really just want to play from my watch without having my phone on me

Yes I am ok playing iTunes with headphones only but I only have limited songs on iTunes whereas i pay for spotify premium and that’s my music player of choice

Yep...I hear you. Same with me. Let’s hope Apple/Spotify/and other streaming services get this rectified.

I bought the apple watch mostly because Spotify was now available on it and I wanted to exercise without my phone. There was no indication that I could not play music through my bluetooth headphones prior to purchase or reading the spotify website.  I am devastated. Does anyone know when this problem will be fixed?

Thank you

I just got an Apple Watch 4 and have the same issue. I'm surprised that the Spotify app apparently doesn't recognize Any bluetooth playback device, in fact I find it confusing.. I CAN see all manner of other devices in my home - 2 Denon stereo receivers, 3 Sony Blu-Ray players, etc. But NO Apple PowerBeats3 Headphones. Really odd. How come I have to have my phone with me to stream music to my Apple Headphones from my Apple Watch?! Please help! I am really hoping that you update the Spotify app soon to support this - otherwise I just lost one of the 2 main use cases I purchased my Apple Watch for (the other being Maps, for running, which works fine).

I also got the series 4 thinking I could put downloaded Spotify songs on the device and play from my watch without having my phone with me.  Is there a fix for this or maybe at least a fix in the works?

Yeah, come on, Spotify. Might as well transfer my music and membership to apple music so I can play from my watch without my phone. Get your app together. Should not take this long to find a soluation to the same complaint from everyone that should’ve been common sense in the first place....

Hopefully this helps:

Something I have found is that, when you are using the spotify app on your watch, it replaces the "now playing" widget at the top of the screen while in use. It does not look like there is a dedicated "now playing" app on the watch however you can add the "now playing" complication to any watch face and access "now playing" through there... the spotify app does not really show all bluetooth connections BUT the "now playing" screen DOES show my bluetooth headphones and gives me the opportunity to control what is playing on my iphone, bluetooth headphones (rowkin micro ascent), and my apple tv. This is really a temporary fix i have found since the spotify app has some definite cons such as incomplete sound output control (i.e. not showing bluetooth headphones) as well as not being able to download anything to your watch effectively making it just a glorified spotify remote controller......

P.S. "now playing" is automatically on your watch... it's not a downloadable app just in case anyone is wondering. just cycle through your complications options when customizing the watch faces to find it.

90% of the reason i bought the apple watch was to track runs (Strava) and listen to music (Spotify) WITHOUT my iPhone.

On realising that i couldn't do this with my Spotify account, the first thing i googled  was "apple music subscription price". Suggest Spotify prioritise fixing this....

Apple has sold over 40 million Apple Watches... a lot of customers at risk.

Soory, it does not help. No BT Headphones with Apple Watch and Spotify.   🤨🤨

This is just so disappointing. For me there is no added value in a Spotify App on my Apple Watch without using BT Headphones.

I also just bought a pair of bluetooth headphones to use with my iWatch.  I was shocked I could not use them.  I will seriously consider moving over to Apple music if they allow that connection to work.  I don't want my phone with me to go jogging.

I was dissapointed when I found out that the Spotify Apple Watch app is basically a remote for the app on your phone.

It would be helpful to know if Spotify has programmers working on adding audio support. I can imagine developing a full fledged audio streaming app would take a considerable amount of time.

In the meantime you can use iTunes to load some music for solo workouts.

Same issue.  Just purchased apple watch with same intent and now same issue.

I chatted with Apple watch support.  They said it is an issue with Spotify.  We need to contact Spotify app developer to have them resolved.  Yeah...right !!
