Can't decide between Spotify & Deezer

Can't decide between Spotify & Deezer

Hi all

I'm aware to the fact this is a Spotify community but would like to share my thoughts .

I can't decide between Spotify & Deezer . I'm currently a Deezer subscriber and happy with it but I'm thinking on moving to Spotify because it seems more popular than Deezer. It has more third party apps that support it and also has a few great features not available on Deezer (ex . Running/Discovery) . It also seems that the audio quality is a little better on Spotify (Free) compared to Deezer(Paid -320kbp/s mp3) , at least for my ears .

On the other hand Deezer has FLOW which is great feature I'm using a lot and doesn't available on Spotify . It's combine your favorites songs with a new songs you might be like .

Advertised talking , Spotify is a massive service . Deezer doesn't even coming close it terms of number of subscribers . therefore it seems more third party apps/companies are willing to contact with Spotify .

Oh and Spotify is cheaper than Deezer in my country .

So what do you think ? Any suggestions ?

P.S -Sorry for my English 🙂

Thx .

Hey @user-removed

Thanks for considering the switch to Spotify.

Don't worry, you've come to the right place to post your questions. This community forum is full of people willing to help out.

You can view the sound quality that Spotify has in the support article:

https://support.spotify.com/using_spotify/search_play/what-bitrate-does-spotify-use-for-streaming/

Spotify has a similar feature called "Daily Mix". It combines songs you like with song recommendations. To me it sounds just like FLOW, but Spotify has several endless playlists, where FLOW only has just one endless playlist. Daily Mix is more fine tuned so if you're looking for a certain type of music, you can get it to be more specific than just an endless stream of songs.

"You’ll get several truly unique mixes to choose from, based on the different styles of music you regularly play. Each one is loaded with artists you love, plus a sprinkling of new discoveries that fit the vibe too."

How it works is that after you sign up to Spotify and start listening to music, after several weeks of listening Spotify will start to understand what music you like and what you are listening to. In the Daily Mix section, several endless playlists are made for you (up to 6) and each one has a different style of music and it has songs and artists from what you usually like to listen to. Also, new songs you might like are sprinkled in. These mixes update regularly every few days or so.

Spotify also has 2 other awesome features called "Discover Weekly" and "Release Radar".

Every Monday, you will get an updated "Discover Weekly" playlist with music recommendations that are similar to your taste in music.

Also, to discover more recomendations, check out the Discover section:

Every Friday, you will get an updated "Release Radar" playlist that will show you new releases from the artists you follow, and it sprinkles in some new releases from artists it thinks you might like.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, or need help with anything, I would be glad to help out.

Thank you Matt for the informative answer .

I'm checking my daily mix every day but since I'm using Spotify for only 2 weeks this tab is still empty . I'm waiting to see what it will suggest .

Oh and I have another question please : Any way I can transfer my album catalog from one service to another ? (Deezer to Spotify) . Adding all my album again could be very painful process 🙂

Appreciate your help

Hey @user-removed

You're welcome! Yes it might take some more time for the Daily Mix to work.

I did some research for you and I found this tool here:

https://www.mooval.de

There are several other tools online to do the same similar thing, but a lot of them charge money. This one seemed really simple to use and it is free.

You select Deezer on the left and Spotify on the right.

Then it will have you sign into your Deezer account first, and then your Spotify account next. Don't worry, this is safe. Both services use a developer API so the apps will not have access to your username and password. The app will only be able to provide functionality for you, nothing more.

Then it will take a while to scan both accounts. Then it will show something like in the picture below. You can click on the arrows next to the section to expand the list. Then make sure to review the lists so that everything looks good before starting the transfer.

Make sure "Append '(MOOVAL)' to playlist‑names" and "overwrite existing playlsits" are UNCHECKED at the bottom of the page.

I  didn't go through the process by clicking on "move" so I don't know how well it works, but give it a try and let me know.

Thank you Matt ! Already started to transfer all my data .

You're welcome! Let me know if you run into any problems. The transfer might not be 100% perfect and you might have to do a few things to get it to your liking, but it sure beats having to do it all by yourself manually.

It missed a few albums (32 albums to be specific) but I can add them manually .

Many thx for your help Matt.

Another free way to move your playlists is the Windows 10 app Playlist Converter. Easy to use and if no perfect match is found, then you get the option to select the best track or even search manually for tracks...

Thx !

like for like in terms of the music library and quality, I suggest you stay away from Spotify. I am a premium subscriber for years and so fed up with their flaws that will soon leave. Most of all, because their discover functionality is extremely poor,  but you may want to check the thousands of posts on this forum about the issues with 'discover weekly' to form your own opinion.
