My Question or Issue

Hi, I cannot play any song of some artists.

I know the songs are correct because on another phone with another profile I can play them.

Do you know why?

Hey @Laurajr1985, help's arrived.

Does this happen with specific artists? If so, can you send us some examples? Include the URI's of the content.

Also, make sure to perform a quick reinstall, and change your network connection to see if it makes any difference.

Hope that helps 🙂

Hello, that's the same problem with me. For example I can't play any songs of BTS or Taylor swift or the weeknd. I been having this issue past few weeks. I even reinstalled the app so many times yet nothing.

Hi, thank you for the feedback.

I tried to reinstall but nothing changed.

i tried it also on the pc now and it's not working anyway.

The uri are:

spotify:user:fabriziodeandr%C3%A8official

spotify:artist:5Pa0BjjSDSiWuak0O1PbHL

spotify:artist:7sjeFi52xnDK82OfIhUOqU

i cannot play any song of those artists.

Thank you!

Laura

sorry, i just found out that on the pc i have a message.

it says i cannot play any song from this artist if i don't add it to
the allowed artists on my smartphone app. (sorry, i'm translating from
Italian so i don't have the right sentence in English)

how can i do it?

Thanks,

Laura

Hey @Laurajr1985 and @SiddekaSadek,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We suspect it has something to do with the host files. Could you try to remove Spotify from the host files to see if that fixes the issue. You can do this as follows:

PC:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
  2. go to File - Open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address. Examples may look like: 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them.
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify.

Mac:

  1. Open Finder and, in Finder’s menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. In the box, type the following location: /private/etc/hosts and press return.
  2. A new Finder window will open and your Mac’s hosts file will be selected. Click and drag it out of the Finder window and drop it on your desktop.
  3. To open it, simply double-click and it will display the file’s contents in TextEdit .
  4. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address.
  5. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  6. Save your changes and restart Spotify.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions.

Have a nice day.
