Chromecast pauses on spotify connection

I am wondering if anyone else is having issues with spotify and chromecast. It had been working perfectly for me up until a couple of weeks ago when it started refusing to play through the chromecast. As soon as the chromecast is connected, the song is paused and returned to the start. Then, every time you push play, it instantly returns to a paused state after a small burst of audio.

I am running the latest version of spotify and chromecast firmware. The problem is the same regardless of if I cast from my android or ipad or try and start playing from my mac once the connection has been made. It is also the same on both my chromecast and chromecast audio. In addition I have swapped my router and the problem persisted.

Occaisionally it does play a song but as soon as I choose another song, the behaviour repeats. A small burst of audio is heard before spotify pauses again.

Casting works without issue from google play audio.

If anyone else has had the same issue or has any other ideas I would love to hear from them!
