Denon AVR-X2100W - No Spotify Connect

Solved!

Denon AVR-X2100W - No Spotify Connect

Just purchased a new Denon receiver and everything is working OK except Spotify connect, it doesn't show as a device on the connect page. I can stream everything via AirPlay OK, but connect doesn't show. They are both running on the same network, but I wonder if there are any settings I need to consider for spotify specifically. I have tried searching the forums but haven't come up with anything so far. If anyone could point me in the direction of some help it would be much appreciated!

ah no.

Something happened. Again. It was good 2 hours ago. Now Connect doesn't work at all, i can listen to spotify on pc and mobile too at the same time... both device can see the denon, but not each other. Thats weird.
pc: 1.0.28.87.g8f9312a4

Android: 5.3.0.995

edit: it is working again

There is something in the air... must be sound waves.

Any response from Denon / Spotify on this?

Trying Connect with my AVR-X3100 today and no dice. Shows up on PC and Android as available, but when selected nothing happens on the receiver. Even shows on the other devices that it's playing on the Denon, but again nothing happens. Tried all the common troubleshooting on this thread.

Hi Guys,

I read back and forth in this blog and tried everything on my Wifi connected AVR-X2100W. Nothing helped unless I connected the AVR by Ethernet Wire. Now any mobile Phone or tablet is able to connect to the AVR and Spotify finds the AVR also from all devices.

For Problem determination you can do the following:

Try to call your AVR Setup Screens by PC or Tablet in a Browser by using this url : http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/SETUP/f_home.asp (replace the xxx with the IP Adress which is shown in the Network Setup screen of the AVR) The setup screen should appear. In my case it did not response in the Browser and I got a timeout on the PC and the tablet. After changing the connection to wire it works instantly. That means even that the AVR got an IP Address by Wi-Fi it cannot be "called", but it can itself connect to the internet to get updates or internet radio. Seems like a one-way communication. It can start a Communication, but cannot be invoked from other devices (over the router of course). I had this work before with Wi-Fi but for any reason this connection does not work any more - Might be because of IP-V6, as far as I see the AVR does not have an IP-V6 Address. Perhaps someone can set hs Network to use IP-V4 only - I did not try it.

Hope this helps a bit.

All,

I am having the same issue with my Denon X2100... (1yr old, latest FW) until a few weeks ago, Spotify used to work fine. I am still seeing my Denon showing up in Spotify, however when selecting it, a message says connecting for a few seconds and then nothing happens, cannot reach it. All other streaming connections working fine with the Denon.

So to me it looks like Spotify has changed something in their SW on their end and it is a Spotify-only issue.

I tried all solutions pointed out in below threads:

- disconnected power supply for a little while

- reset the receiver back to factory settings and also resetting the network settings

- try DHCP enabled and disabled, use a dynamic and static IP address after the reset

- Downloading latest Spotify SW on the phone and my Windows

I would greatly appreciate if somebody had any further hint.

Thanks a lot.

How is your Denon AVR connected to the LAN? Wifi or Cable? Did you try wire? As I wrote above I could only get it to work (again) by connecting by Cable.

The Denon is connected thru WiFi, I played around with various Wifi Settings, did not see any effect. Interesting finding with wire. Maybe one needs to try more into this direction.

I am not sure if I can give it a try with LAN given by the distance between the router and the Denon.

So if you switch to Wifi, Spotify stops operating?

Thanks in advance.

NO, it does not necessarily stop working. My experience with my X4100 was that WiFi does only work very unreliable. This might have changed with new firmware, but I have it now connected via LAN cable and never looked back. If your distance between router and AVR is to large and there are walls and doors to cross, you might want to take a look at power LAN. This works really great for me.

I use Wifi connection in my AVR-X2100W. I do not have experince with cable connection. Sometimes I have problems with Denon and  even Denon remote apps in my mobile or iPad will not find my Denon  if they are connected same Wifi network. Other devices works fine in wifi. Only help is to "plug off and plug on". I think that the problem is software in Denon and not a wifi problem

It sure is a problem with the Denon network software. My experience though is that it occurs more often with WiFi than with cable, so perhaps the Denon WiFi drivers are exceptionally bad...

When the LAN connection worked, I tried Wifi again, and it failed again. So I went back to use LAN and it worked instantly again. I am also using Power LAN because of the distance. And now I don't touch the running system any more 😉

But to repeat myself. I am not convinced that it is a Spotify problem. Try calling the Setup of the Denon AVR when connected by Wifi, even that did not work. The Denon is able to connect outbound via Wifi (I could connect to Internet Radio) but the AVR cannot be called by devices - Connections cannot be established, or communication is not possible.

Update after some more weeks of some desperate digging for solutions here is my personal success story with this issue.

Connecting the DENON receiver via LAN did not help, no resetting and none of the many other hints helped.

I am owning an AVM Fritzbox as router, I even ordered a new one, I suspected the old router sitting behind the cable modem might create trouble. It did NOT help.

I tried to get Spotify Connect with my receiver working thru a different network:

I used my smartphone to establish a Wifi hotspot and I hooked up the DENON to this hotspot => that worked. So I got the prove point the DENON in general seems to work still.

Besides I also found I can stream Spotify on any tablet in my network.

I noticed various people in other forums have seen similar Spotify Connect issue, w/o a DENON, but other brands.

One recommendation I found is logging out from all Spotify endpoints, de-installing the Apps and rebooting then the receiver.

Then however relog in with the email address. I understood it could help in case Spotify servers might not see your account as premium account. Trouble here would only affect Spotify Connect related receiver connections as premium feature.

One more thing I found was trying change the DNS setting in the receiver.

My DHCP is now set to off in the DENON, so I could put the below DNS in the DENON receiver network settings

Prim DNS 8.8.8.8

Sec DNS 8.8.4.4

This pushes for using the Google DNS servers rather than the ones from the internet provider ones. It could help to bring down latencies.

Last thing I did is I opened all those TCP ports known to be used by Spotify in my router setup: TCP Ports 80, 20007, 57621, 4070, 1935, 4371, 4381

I tried this before, not convinced that helped..

One or multiple of these things finally made Spotify Connect working on my DENON receiver again.

I will now not go back and nail down what it was at the end.

I hope this might help some of you as well.  Good luck.

Reboot the router after add my Denon AVR-X3100W to the network make apear my Denon in the list of "play with" option in Spotify ! I'm happy !

My denon ceol n9 don't show up in my spotify connect divices !! Tried everything yet but still nothing...

I've had flaky behaviour from my x1100 ever since I updated its firmware before Xmas. Prior to that it had been rock solid for a year. After the update and about once every week it doesn't show up as a device for Spotify or airplay. I'm going to roll back the firmware but at the moment I have a very easy way to make it reappear. This will probably only be useful to you if you run your avr with the "ip control in standby" set to on. This means that the network stack in the avr is always on and doesn't get shutdown when you go into standby. Therefore it always get a fresh restart when you switch on.
So when I see it's gone AWOL I just set the ip control to off, turn the avr off, count to 10 and turn it back on. It's never failed to reappear. Then I just put the ip control back to on and I'm good for another week or so. I would leave it to off but often it's very convenient to turn it on with DeRemote or Denons own app or let the Spotify app or airplay turn it on. I'd bet a pound to a penny it's a Denon bug in their network stack - if it runs for days at a time it gets fatigued.

My Spotify looses often connection to my Denon AVR 4520 after song interruptions or switching to play something with another App. On the Denon you see then still the previously played song in display like the Denon software or network stack is hanging.

I think also like in previous comments there is some bug in the Denon rather in Spotify or router.

would be cool if Denon people could make better testing of their network function. Seems still a bid odd.

Same problem with denon x2100w. I think it's a Spotify issue. Had been fine until very recently, and problems aren't related to any recent denon firmware updates.
Marked as solution

1) Go into settings>network>turn off DCHP

2) Assign an IP address in your virtual network:

a. IP: 192.168.1.10->192.168.1.199 (just pick an IP)

b. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

c. Gateway: 192.168.1.1

d. Google DNS is fine: Primary: 8.8.8.8,  Secondary: 8.8.4.4

e. Proxy: Off

f. Click Save.

3) Go into router settings>DCHP Server>Static IP> assign that same IP to the Denon receiver MAC address.

4) reboot router, unplug, plug in receiver.

5) On receiver go back to settings>network>diagnostic.  You should get 3 "OK"s.

6) go to "My computer" in widows and "network" (where you see all other computers/media servers on your network)

7) double click denon avr icon.

😎 click INPUTS>HIDE SOURCES

9) Enable : Internet Radio, Pandora, Media Server> Click "Set Network Contents"

10) Wait 60 seconds.

11) Go ahead and play via Spotify.

The problem occurs only when using Spotify connect via my iPhone. I'm already using a static IP address.

Some more detail. Disconnect occurs on iPhone 7 when pressing the button on the right side of the phone.

Can some remove the "solved" from this thread? Not fully solved.
