The described experience could have various reasons. It'd be best to start the troubleshooting with a clean reinstall of the app as described here. If this brings no results it's important to narrow the reasons down through trying to reproduce the experience with a different account on the same device and with your account on a different device. If this brings no different results, it'd be possible for the reason to be dependent on some Android settings on your phone. Could you check the background/memory optimization settings on your device and make sure Spotify is set as an exception there?
