Logging into community outside of home network

Hello community,

Does anyone know why you may get an "IP Address error" when trying to log into the Spotify community while away from my home network?

Kinda a bummer when I'm trying to log in from the office or from out of town.

I can try! 😛

Lithium (the community host) have certain security features which are applied to any accounts which have "additional" privileges over regular users, all Rising Stars, Rock Stars and Staff fall into that category.

The IP address error you get normally occurs when you are connected via a network where Lithium have detected your IP address changes frequently. The Lithium software blocks IP address changes in order to prevent session hijacking on privileged accounts.

Weird, I've never had that problem, but the only other network I really use it on is my mobile network. Are you trying through wifi or mobile?

both. I do it at work and on my cell. Any time I'm outside of my home wifi, it won't let me log in and says "IP check failed" as well as I'm viewing "privileged info."

No. Unfotunately, that's the point. I want to be able to do this from multiple devices and multiple networks.

Well, that would seem to indicate it's not a browser or firewall issue. The only other thing I can think of would be to make sure you're going directly to community.spotify.com and not some subpage perhaps. Other than that, I'm out of ideas at the moment haha. Very odd.

yeah...me too. Opened a case, but the CS guy had no clue either. Will post a screenshot if I can get one tomorrow at work.

I always go to community.spotify.com and have even cleared cache / cookies multiple times. Just sucks that I can't be 100% 😞

This happens sometimes with accounts that are given special privileges. It's a Lithium thing I think (company who makes the forum)

example: rising stars and rock stars (all super users)

Maybe @Peter__ can explain it better than me, but basically any account that has special privileges has this IP block so the account cannot be hijacked. This usually happens when using public WiFi or mobile networks such as LTE and 3G because of how the IP addresses are issued.

It happens to me too sometimes... just something you have to deal with

@Peter__ please explain it better 😉

Good to know. Thanks for the information on that. Makes sense security wise.
