Particular podcast not playing across devices

Particular podcast not playing across devices

HI there,
A few days ago, out of the blue, I had some playback issues on a regularly listened to podcast - I was unable to play it on my phone (Pixel 6). The issue persisted, so I tried the common solutions - uninstalling/reinstalling, restarting. This did not fix the issue.

I tried accessing via web player on my laptop (chromebook), by desktop app (windows 10) and installing the app on the chromebook, but in each case, I was still unable to get the podcast to play.

This issue is only with one podcast, but all episodes of that podcast are now unplayable (including ones I've previously listened to without issue). The web version will attempt to play for a while (with the progress bar remaining at 0:00) before telling me there is an issue playing and skipping to the next episode in my episodes.

This problem is incredibly frustrating, having seemingly come out of the blue! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My Question or Issue

Certain podcasts won't play on PS5, either natively or trying to in one via Spotify connect from another device. Examples include the Jim Cornette Experience and Jim Cornette Drive Thru. Have already performed clean install, cache clear, etc, and the network is wide open for all relevant ports.

Hey @UrielX, welcome to the Spotify Community! 🎵

Does this happen only on the PS5, and are you able to stream those podcasts on other platforms/devices? Do the episodes appear greyed out by any chance? 🙂

Hi! Everything plays fine on both pc and Android. The podcast episodes do not appear grayed out on PS5, they just don't 'work' when selecting Play. It will just 'hang' for a bit, and then revert to the last music or podcast that successfully played. Other podcasts are fine. If I use Connect to play on the PS5 using my phone, I can play anything *except* the specified podcasts (I tested the other 20 podcasts I subscribe to, all fine). When trying to play the JCE/JCDT podcasts via Connect, pressing Play in the android app does nothing at all. This has happened multiple times before, but usually self resolved in a few days. This seems to be permanent, lasting a month now.

Yes. It's definitely isolated to my device. It's isolated to my Ps5. The same way every one else's problem is isolated to their device. There are years of threads of others complaining about the same thing I am because it's isolated to their device. Is the problem even trying to get fixed? Every reply gives the same advice and people have continually been saying it doesn't work.

Seemingly not, because this has happened periodically since the app first hit PS4, and now it seems to be permanently corrupted. Even a total uninstall and cache clear from the PS safe mode doesn't resolve it, which means it's server side at Spotify. Otherwise, why wouldn't it work if trying to play from another device via Connect?

For me, it worked perfectly fine on my ps4. It's my ps5 that it won't play on. It's looking like it's one of those issues that they just won't fix. There's people complaining about this going back to 2023

No. It isn't isolated to my device or setup. People in the thread are complaining about the exact same thing. I used the same not working troubleshooting methods that everyone else on this thread used. The only reason this would still be a thread is if people were still having this problem. Instead of telling someone that it's their fault that your app isn't working, just say "we don't know".

I dont know if u saw what they said when I complained about the exact same problem and podcasts, but they pretty much told me that it was a problem with something on my part. That's probably where this is headed, just to let u know. If u want, just scroll back a page or 2 and you'll see what they told me to do about the exact same podcasts.
