Phone and laptop connected and sync on their own - how do I stop it?

Phone and laptop connected and sync on their own - how do I stop it?

All of a sudden over the weekend, the queues on my Windows 11 laptop program (not app) and my iPhone app have started to sync even though I don't have them set up to do so.

I prefer to listen to different playlists on each device and I even make sure one version is closed before opening the other. However, over the last few days, every time I close Spotify on one device, the other device will have the last song played on the first one (along with its queue) when I had a completely different playlist there previously (e.g. I listened to a New Music Friday playlist on my laptop and a Top Hits playlist on my phone; however, the New Music Friday playlist is on my phone the next time I open the app). As I said, I didn't set the devices up to sync; they just started doing this. Is there any way to fix this so I can go back to listening to two different playlists on two different devices?

have searched whole help section only to find your issues similar to mine. I have two devices and I do not want first device to say synced to my last played song in my account. I want my second device to no have any imprint of the first device. My laptop needs to play different playlist and phone needs to play different playlist. But, since last update.. I can see on my second device what was played by the first device and it does not log out when that device app is closed.

for example , see the picture attached.. I do not want to see what I had played on my phone during Leisure time at home during work hours in my laptop. It never used to do that before. Why is it doing now?

can you please revert the changes of whatever you broke because I do not want my played items shared across all devices. It never used to show me I had played espresso song in my phone.. this song should not be showing as a last played song in my laptop. It never used to carry over what’s played last on this device to that device. I don’t like it.

Hey folks,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

To start investigating this, we'd recommend trying with a different Wi-Fi network or mobile data to see if it makes any difference. If not, and in case you haven't sent it yet; let us know the following info:

- Your device info (make/model) and OS version

- Exact Spotify version

We'll be waiting for your response.

I don't think it's the Wi-Fi. The main reason I have two different playlists going is because I listen to Spotify on my phone while at work and at home I listen while I'm doing tasks on my laptop (checking email, etc.). The Wi-Fi at work is different than my personal one.

On my Windows 11 HP laptop, the version of Spotify that I have is Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.76.298.g2316a870. On my iPhone 13 mini with iOS 26.1, the version of Spotify that I have is 9.0.96.828.

Device

iPhone SE + PC

Operating System

iOS 15 + Windows 10

I have spotify installed both on my iPhone and on my PC.

On the PC app I listen to new songs and have a long queue of songs to play.
Occasionally, I open the iPhone app to listen to my playlists.
When I listen to something on iPhone and then I quit the app, and hours later I open the PC app, my entire queue that I had on my PC is wiped out because Spotify is syncing to whatever I was listening to on my iPhone. The iPhone app is not even running when this happens.

I don't want this to happen! I want to listen separately on my PC and my iPhone. I could do it up to a week ago. But now it's impossible. I've tried many fixes but there is not solution as far as I understand.

Spotify, can you please give us the freedom to customize our listening habits?
Thanks.
