My Question or Issue

I keep having an issue where I want to play podcasts from "My episodes" but it only plays an episode for a second, and then skips to the end, marking the episode as watched and deleting it from the playlist. Sometimes it happens to multiple episodes in a row before I can stop it

Hi there @paulina271,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help you enjoy your podcasts freely again.

We've encountered certain similar issues like this before, but it depends on the setup. So that we can narrow in on the exact behaviour, could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)? What more specific devices does this happen on?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Does it happen on all podcasts or only specific one(s)?
  • Does it happen only when playing via Connect on certain devices such as smart speakers, smart TVs, etc.?

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

I've recently (late February/early March) gone back to listening to podcasts on my walks so I don't know if it was an issue before. I'm using my Android phone, it's happening to different podcasts, my earphones don't have a "skip" function, only volume control. Sometimes the skipping stops on its own (having deleted a string of downloaded episodes), usually I rush to hit the pause button and play another episode or reset the app to fix the issue. Sometimes when I then go to the podcast, find the episode that was deleted and marked as "watched", I have to hit play on it 2-3 times before it plays normally

Thanks for the provided details @paulina271.

As you've mentioned that this is happening on an Android device with your headphones, before continuing to troubleshoot the behavior, could you check if this also happens when you're listening only on the phone without the headphones?

If that's the case and if you've not already done this, I recommend a detailed clean reinstall of Spotify with the steps here. You also mentioned that sometimes the skipping stops on its own after you have deleted a string of downloaded episodes, so there may be an issue with the downloads or there can be corrupted cache which can cause different performance issues.

Keep in mind that after the clean reinstall, you'd have to re-download the episodes.

Something else that comes to mind is to test with another network connection (Wi-Fi, mobile data shared via hotspot from a relative or a friend).

Let us know if any of the steps make a difference and we're here if anything else comes up in the meantime.
