My Question or Issue
Since the recent update to “recents/recently played”, podcasts that had been listened to in the past and finished, but now I’m relistening to, do not show in the front page’s recently played list. However, when seeing the full history, it shows the episodes in question. Relistening podcasts also don’t display in the quick access bar at the top. Marking the episode as not listened to does not fix this. New episodes by the podcast do show in the quick access, I can assume the bug is in the synopsis part of the recents summary. The previous version of recents did not have this bug, it just showed the podcast main page (and then picking it would auto scroll to the episode in question). In the photos, you can see the most recently played is the episode of the podcast, but the main page only shows the playlist from before. This is NOT the same bug outlines in the ongoing issue “podcast recently updated” list not updating - this bug is about specifically a podcast episode that has been already listened to (marked as complete) not being displayed in the PLAYBACK history. Marking the episode as unplayed has no effect, but new episodes from the same podcast will display in the history. This is a different bug, and should not be merged into the other thread. This issue has only been present since the rework to the playback history UI.
Hey @jbeejone,
Thanks for the clarification and the speedy reply, we understand now!
We were able to reproduce this behavior and you are indeed right that it is connected to a different part of the app and not as we originally thought with the OI mentioned. We've gone ahead and reported this to our tech folks for further investigation and will let you know as soon as we hear back from them.
Take care.
Updated 6th of June:
We can confirm that the correct teams are aware of this and the behavior is part of a test that Spotify is running. We're continuously testing out new features and improvements for the app, so we appreciate you taking the time to share this with us.
Hey @jbeejone,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community about this.
To start investigating this case and to make sure we've all bases covered, would you mind confirming if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app? If not, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article to see if it makes any difference.
If the issue persists, could you check if highlighting the Podcasts tag on the top of your main screen shows the missed content or not?
Lastly, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.
We'll be waiting for your response.
Hi Oscar,
I can confirm that the issue is still present after a clean reinstall and on other devices. The issue is also present on the “Recents” section under the podcasts tab. Both the main page and podcasts “recents” experience the exact same behaviour - ignoring all podcast episodes that were finished at least once, and disregarding them in the history if they’re currently being listened to again. (Marking as unplayed has no effect.) Please let me know if I can provide anymore information to get this sorted, it’s a major annoyance.
Hey @jbeejone,
Thank you for keeping in contact.
We appreciate all the info you've included in your posts. In order to continue investigating this behavior, it would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not. Also, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running.
Thanks again for your cooperation with this reporting process, it's very helpful.
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
Hi Oscar,
I’ve had my sister try it, and it’s present on both her account and her separate device. She tried with two separate podcasts, one with a video component and one without, both had the same issue. My Spotify version is 9.0.40.506, please let me know if there’s any other information you need!
Hey @jbeejone,
Thank you very much for keeping in contact and for the info shared, it's really helpful.
As a last thing to check, could you try with a speaker different from your Sonos or a headset on the same Wi-Fi network to see if it makes any difference?
Also, would you mind checking with a different streaming app on your Sonos such as YouTube or Apple Music to see if the issue also happens with those apps?
Let us know how it goes.
Hi Oscar,
This seems to be a response to a different question. My issue isn’t a speaker issue, it’s a UI issue internal to the app. Please let me know if there’s any info I can give to help with my issue.
Hi there @jbeejone,
Sorry for the confusion!
What you've described sounds a lot like the Ongoing Issue reported here. If you agree, feel free to click on Vote under its status and Subscribe from the three dots menu in order to not miss out on any updates.
Hope this helps.
Hi Dessi,
No, as I said in my original post, this is a separate issue. This bug isn’t concerning the “recently updated” section for the podcasts, or anything concerning the podcast’s episode updating. This issue is concerning the recent played display - for me, the podcast stream updates correctly. The issue is that if someone is relistening to a podcast episode, it won’t show up in the recent PLAYBACK display (It will only be shown if you go to the full display that shows songs being added etc). This issue started after the UI overhaul for recently played, prior versions didn’t have this. Please let me know if there’s any other information I can provide to solve this issue.

Hi Dessi,
Thanks for this update! Looking forward to hearing back about it!
So wait, breaking the functionality just for one podcast and not others is part of a test? Seems more like a bug since it’s not affecting all podcasts
