It's very frustrating that smart shuffle is the automatic option every time I open my playlists. I do not want to use it and likely never will. I turn it off every time I open the app, and I think it should stay off instead of turning back on the next time I open spotify. My playlists contain the songs I want to listen to in the order I want.
Hey @ggreene,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.
That being said, we'd like to add some insights. We can confirm our Smart shuffle feature doesn't activate by default, in other words, you'll need to enable it in order to be active within a playlist. The app does remember if you activated it for a specific playlist previously, so you don't need to enable it every time you open that particular playlist.
It's possible you activated the feature previously by accident on some playlists of yours. If you were listening to a playlist with Smart shuffle and then closed the app, it'll remember the playlist was on Smart shuffle, so next time you open the app you'll see both the playlist you were listening to before and the feature active. If you deactivate, you won't need to do it again for said playlist.
If after checking the above you continue having inconveniences, it'd be really helpful if you shared with us the make/model and OS of your device along with the Spotify version you're running there.
If possible, you can also send us a video recording of this described behavior. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
Keep us in the loop!
That’s not true. I turn off smart shuffle. Leave the playlist, go back and smart shuffle is back on. It means I can’t access my downloaded songs as smart shuffle needs to be online. I really don’t want this feature.
I have experienced the same, I don’t even use shuffle anymore..
I can also confirm I see this behavior. Some time ago this was not the case. Either shuffle was off, or it was standard shuffle. Now it's almost always smart shuffle that it chooses by default. Based on the answer, it sounds like a bug?
Hey folks,
Thank you for joining the conversation.
We tried to replicate the behavior you mentioned, but we couldn't. So in this case, to verify this is not related to some damaged cache stored on your device, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article.
If the behavior persists, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.
We'll be on the lookout.
Ridiculous behavior from spotify. Someone has to do something about the slow enshittification they're doing.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
