Ridiculous duplicates

Why do duplicate albums still exist? I spent whole day porting my library back to Spotify, and encountered the issue dozens of times.

Steps to recreate an example:

1. Search for Bad girls and like the song by M.I.A.

2. Click on the artist and find the album for the song (Matangi)

3. Observe the song you liked in step 1 is NOT liked!

The albums obviously have different URI's. It is strange that one shows up during search and the other on the page but why are there multiple albums in the first place?

Also, Why are singles from upcoming albums are not getting cleared up after the albums are released?

P.S. as an idea it'd be great to take up notch even further with different edition albums but I guess would be better off in Idea Exchange forum.

Duplicates of songs or albums will appear depending on the way that right-holders upload different versions of the same albums or songs on Spotify.

In case you're interested, there's actually an Idea in the Community regarding something along the lines of what you're addressing. It's about consolidating songs that appear as duplicates in Liked Songs. If you'd like to present your own thoughts regarding this as an Idea for Spotify, make sure to follow these steps:

1. Go to the Spotify Community

2. Click on Menu

3. Click on Ideas > Idea submissions

4. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on “Let’s go”

As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an Idea gets, the more likely it is for the Idea to be implemented.

The issue I was talking is not about different versions but same albums (same edition, same tracklist) and visually indistinguishable but having different URI's; and as I mentioned in the example, the album on the artist's page has a different URI from the one showing up during search.
