My Question or Issue

The playing queue ignores genre filters in Liked Songs from the Android app if you use Spotify Connect to play on Sonos speakers.  It will work for a few songs in the queue and then randomly jump to a different song not in the filtered genre.

Hey @massmanjr,

Thank you for creating a separate thread on the issue you're experiencing with Sonos via Connect.

In order for us to investigate further, it would be very helpful if you could provide the following details:

  • Troubleshooting steps that you've performed so far.
  • Exact Spotify-version you're using.
  • Device(s) make, model and OS-version.
  • Does this behavior persist across devices?
  • Have you tested on your device(s) with another Spotify-account?

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

Here are the steps to recreate the problem:

1. Launch Spotify app (version 9.0.42.529) on Android (OS version 14, on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra)*

2. Click on the home key in the Spotify app, then the 'connect' button at the bottom right to select the source/speaker on which the play the music. Select the desired Sonos speaker as the output device.

3. On the Spotify app, navigate to 'Liked Songs.'

4. Select the desired music genre/filter.

5. Select a song in the filtered list to begin playback.

6. Either wait till the song ends to automatically advance to the next track or manually advance to the next track.

The issue is that once steps # 6 is complete, the 'next' song displayed in the app is not always/consistently played on the Sonos speaker.  Sometimes the correct song is played, while at other times the next song is not played. If you continue to manually advance to the next track in the Spotify app, you'll see this to be the case--it never consistently plays the correct song.

Note: for reference, I have the Sonos app installed on my phone.  The version of the Sonos app is: 80.20.33-release+20250428.944016a

*I have not been able to test this on 'another' Spotify account since I only have one account.  However, I have replicated the same exact problem from the Spotify Windows Desktop application, while playing to the Sonos Speaker--the Windows application incorrectly/randomly plays the incorrect 'next' track in the filtered, 'liked songs' queue.

We really appreciate all of the provided details @massmanjr.

Since this is happening with your Sonos speaker both on your phone and desktop apps, it's worth troubleshooting the speaker as well.

Please restart the speaker if you've not already done so and make sure that you're using the latest app versions (both Sonos and Spotify).

Another thing you can test is to remove and re-add your account to Sonos with the steps in this help article.

Keep us posted and don't hesitate to let us know if anything else coms up in the meantime.
