Hello,
I'm a Spotify Premium member and I was very excited to get a bluetooth Kenwood stereo system installed in my car over the summer, so that I could control Spotify and listen to my music easily (I used to have to fiddle with my phone while driving, which was obviously dangerous). It worked great for the most part - on occasion, I would have trouble getting Spotify to connect, but I always managed after an occasional reset.
However, a few months ago (maybe around Thanksgiving?) information stopped displaying on the Spotify setting of my radio. The music plays, but no song title/artist/etc. info appears, and I cannot use my steering wheel buttons to control the music anymore. It works well on the bluetooth setting, so I don't think it's the radio or my phone, and I'm hoping to get this fixed because the bluetooth radio setting doesn't have the same functionality.
I've searched high and low for a solution and none have worked for me - fiddling with the stereo settings, cleaing cache and data, fiddling with Spotify settings/app permission/phone settings, uninstalling and reinstalling the app entirely, etc.
Here's some info:
- I have a Samsung S7 running Android 8, Samsung Experience version 9.
- I have the most up-to-date version of Spotify that seems to be available to me (Version 8.4.91.861)
- I have all permissions turned to "on" under my Spotify app settings.
- I have "Car view" turned on.
- I have "Device Broadcast Status" turned on.
Someone please help - at my wit's end!

This issue lies in the device permission I spent hours playing around with the unit and the app and found my Files and Media permission disabled as soon as I enabled this permission on my samsung device it instantly worked, under the permission setting of the app itself enable this and it should respond
If your on Android please see my earlier post on the fix.
The issue happens to my xiaomi. Song info stuck on first played song and won't refresh. But everything is fine on my LG smartphone. The only fix is by using Spotify Lite for Android. I have no idea if it's available on ios. It's not ideal considering the amount of space occupied by Spotify app. Spotify, please explain how these two apps behave differently.
SOUTION -> FINALLY=>Restore to an earlier ver. of the Spotify APP
Android phones / Kenwood stereo
This info for me stopped displaying around the new year. I can still listen w/ "BT mode" but in then mean time I've been through this post several times, down many alleys looking for a solution. Finally, today I installed an older version of Spotify (you're gonna have to ask the Google how to do this and prob download the file from an "untrusted" site). I installed ver 8.6.82.113 which was released Nov. 26th, 2021. Finally Success!!! After installed, don't forget to go back to the Play Store, under the Sptofy APP, click the 3 dots, and DISABLE auto update.
I can't blame Spotify. I'm assuming this is most likely an incompatibility issue with my stereo... I've tried upgrading firmware on my stereo as well without any success. I would sleep better at night to find out what was changed in the updated Spotify APP that broke this. Hope this solution helps others.
If your running Android, see my permanent fix on my previous post a few pages back 👍
I also recently started facing this issue. In order for mine to work i have to disconnect my bluetooth from my phone and then reconnect and then song info appears. Very annoying as i have to do this everytime. It proves that my cae can display the meta info but not sure why i have to disconnect and reconnect everytime. Anyone have any ideas?
Are you in Android or iPhone?
I have been having the similar issue for a few weeks. I've uninstalled, logged out cleared cache and it will work fine for a couple of hours. It also will randomly stop playing in the middle of songs not just in the car. Haven't been able to skip songs both in the car and when connected to other speakers. Have version 8.7.20.1261 currently installed. Can you please advise if there is a way to resolve these issues? Thanks!
Android or iPhone?
I’m still running into the same issue with my 2015 CR-V. Music information from Spotify only shows if I FIRST start playing music or a podcast via Apple Music or Apple Podcasts. Once I then switch over to Spotify, the information shows. Please help, because it’s such a frustrating issue.
Hello, it's doing the kind of same thing for me. I had a samsung S10 and everything was displayed in my car. I changed for a Google Pixel 6 and now I don't see the albums, the time where the song's at and the pictures of albums. The sound work well. It lag too.
I know this is literally years later, but this is my first time seeing your comment and it actually worked with my phone on a 2015 Honda civic. Bro you don't even know how much you just made my day. Thank you 🙌 I've been having this issue for a few years after an update my last phone did.. my new phone also had the same issue
Same problem. I downgrade my spotify app and my problem solved
Hello Ver,
After the newest update I just began experiencing this problem. I have a new 4Runner 2017 and it’s been just fine with Spotify for the last few years until yesterday. I have an iPhone 13 what can I do to correct this?
