Spotify working super slow in Android phone

Spotify working super slow in Android phone

Premium, Family Plan

Portugal

Device: Moto G9

Operating System: Android 10

Spotify app gets stuck when opened. Then eventually starts, but working super slow. Super slow interface and troubles playing. I am having this issue for one year or so, by now.

It works normal in Mac computer, and the other members of the plan don't report any problems.

I have already tried to uninstall, delete cache and data, force stop, restart the phone, reinstall. Nothing works.

Hi there @oliviaguerra,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sorry to hear that you're having such issues with the performance of the app.

Can you let us know how many items you have in your Library - playlists, albums, Liked Songs etc.? On some devices very large libraries, containing 10,000 + playlists and songs, can slow the app significantly.

In order to test is this is an account or device related issue, it's a good idea to ask a family member to log in with their account on your phone and test if the app functions properly for them. Alternatively, you can make a free account for test purposes.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Hi

I have less than 10 playlists, with less than 50 songs in each.
Another family member logged in my phone and it was also very slow to
perform.

It is a problem with Spotify on my phone, that is for sure. I have no
problem accessing it through the app on my Mac.

Although, it is not a problem with my phone, as it is working
perfectly well with all other apps. It is just Spotify that does not work.
Also, Spotify worked perfectly ok on this phone till one day it started not
to work correctly - without me having done anything different. One day,
many months ago, it just got suuuuuper slow starting, downloading album
images, searching, playing, etc.

Hi there @oliviaguerra,

Thanks for the reply.

It's possible that there could be some sort of battery saver/ performance optimization enabled for the Spotify app from your phone settings. Go to your phone's app settings and locate the Spotify app:

  • Make sure that Spotify is granted all permissions.
  • Make sure that Battery Saver/ Optimization is disabled.
  • Inside the Spotify app, go to Settings > Data Saver > enable Save Data. This will disable features like Canvas and Videos and lower streaming quality which should make the app run faster.

If none of that helps, you can try using Spotify Lite. It's a lighter version of the app that lacks some features, but it's specially designed for older phones.

Hope this helps 🙂

No battery problem (it would then work when completely charged or when
charging), no problem with permissions.

The owner of the family account reached the support (which for me was
impossible to get to) and got a solution. It was related
with some incompatibility with the Sim Card.

I have the same issue! My phone is also a Motorolla

Hi! I can't remember where and who gave me the solution, but I remember it had something to do with the SD card. I believe there was some app install info in the SD card and that was creating some problem. Try to uninstall Spotify and take off the SD card before you install it again.

I found it. It was a reply from Customer Support:

"Since you have an SD card on your device, let’s try these steps to refresh the app’s connection with it:

  • Remove the SD card from your device.
  • In the app’s Home, tap Settings.
  • Select Storage, then tap Delete cache.
  • Close the app and uninstall it from your device (don’t reinstall it just yet).
  • Insert the SD card to your device.
  • Reinstall Spotify.
That should do the trick. If you need anything else, you may write back to us.

All the best,

James

Spotify Customer Support"

That worked for me.

I'm having the same problem, it's been like a month now or something. It also loads for such a long time when it switches songs. And that's with my downloaded songs, so there shouldn't be any buffering. Spotify has truly become unenjoyable. Or it takes so long to simply access the 3 button menu when I'm listening to a song to add it to the queue or just set a sleep timer.

Using Android

Same with me, it's now a horrible experience to use the app and I've tried everything - deleted all downloads, reinstalled the app, cleared the cache. Nothing changes. Seriously considering giving up my account if this doesn't improve because it's just unusable now

I have the same issue on two different phones, both in a duo plan.

The contents don't get loaded, songs doesn't start or take a long time to start, and when playing cannot be stopped...

I've cleaned the cache, the data, reinstalled, nothing worked.

Alex

Have you tried my solution? It has to be with the SIM Card. See my post on
this conversation.
