Unable to remove songs from Discover Weekly

Solved!

Unable to remove songs from Discover Weekly

I'm on the premium plan, using the Windows desktop app version of Spotify.  I'm trying to remove a song from my Discover Weekly playlist, since it's been there before and I didn't think much of it the first time.  The button to do this has been removed.  I can find old posts explaining where it is, and it's not there any more.  How do I remove this song from my playlist?

It's back! Hooray! Thank you!

Still not back for me. Checking regularly.

For me "hide song" is now available (again), on desktop.

Discover Weekly from this morning on desktop version Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

Never would I have though that the "Hide song" button will ever come back after it's several months of absence from the desktop app. Just a few minutes ago I restarted my subscription.

Whomever from Spotify is responsible for this extended absence of the button, please don't casually remove features in the future without realizing how essential they are to the core functionality of the application.

In the end, thank you for bringing back the button.

Marked as solution

The Hide button is now back on Desktop for 100% of users. If you don't see it, please update the App to the latest version and/or close/reopen the App a few times for it to take effect. Thanks again for your patience and comments.

Indeed! The button has made a remarkable come-back!

Many thanks for this!

Thanks for putting back a feature that never should have been disabled for 5-months.

As a customer, if you told me the feature would be disabled to achieve fixes/updates, changes to platforms etc for 5-days then I could accept that.  However on reflection, the 5-month period without this functionality is still unacceptable.  I trust you will conduct a thorough review of your systems, functions, processes and their performance to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Oh yes... Looks good (on MAC too)...

Now you can say "Solved".

Yeah, works on Linux too, after client update. Everywhere works, so I guess this is finally solved. Too bad we had to wait so many months for it.

I wouldn't call this solved... The button is back for me (Windows installed app) but it doesn't actually work.

I clicked it and it marked the song as hidden. When I then played Discover Weekly and just let it play in order, it played the hidden songs too.

It's back for me on the macOS app. It's fully working like it used to and it's wonderful. Please leave it there Spotify!

Great News! - looking like the button is back!  (it should never have been removed in the first place.. what a stupid change)

Bad News! - It still plays the track on windows so it's utterly pointless.

Hi @killswitch85 and @UsernamesAreHard

Can you please share specific details of the:

  • version of Windows OS you are using
  • Spotify version
  • playlist you are using where the Hidden track is not skipped, but played
  • timestamp of when the issue occurred.

Ideally share a screen recording (even an image showing the track playing in the hidden playlist).

We will have this investigated as we have been unable to replicate this issue on Windows.

@Loneliest_Cabin

Edition: Windows 10 Pro
Version: 22H2
OS build: 19045.5737

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.61.443.gc51c574b

Android version of Spotify 9.0.36.697

This reproduces in my Discover Weekly playlist.

Time of the issue being reproduced is April 23rd, 2025 at 16:37 GMT.

Repro steps for this are a combination of using Shuffle mode in Discover Weekly while listening from your phone(android in my case) but controlling the playlist from the windows app. By controlling I mean pressing the Next song button in the windows app.

It's BACK!!!!!!!

Thanks for those details @Sindrom - while Hide works for the majority, it seems like there are some users who are experiencing issues with hidden tracks as per this Ongoing Issue. We have been unable to reproduce this ourselves. So would you be willing for our engineers to log in to your account on Tuesday 29th April (EU working time, somewhere between 9am to 5pm)? This will be our best way of trying to uncover what might be happening.

We won't need your password to log in, but you will need to reset it afterwards.

Let me know if this is ok.

Yes, it's fine. You can use my account for a day in order to try and figure out why this issue reproduces.

today I got an update for the windows app. retested the issue and it still reproduces.

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.62.580.gb27ad23e

shuffle mode is irrelevant for reproducing it.

the entire thing about listening on the mobile app but controlling from the windows app is irrelevant for reproducing.

interestingly enough, the list of songs in the queue is correctly created when starting to listen the Discover weekly playlist and the hidden songs are not shown there however when the next song in the playlist is a Hidden song, instead of playing the next song in the queue, the hidden song starts playing instead.

I am 99% certain that this issue was not present for me at the start of this week when I got the fresh Discover Weekly list of songs.

I checked some other public playlist I have saved and I have the same issue there also.

  • Computer
    • OS: Windows 11 Pro
    • Version: 24H2
    • Build: 26100.3775
  • Spotify
    • Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
    • 1.2.62.580.gb27ad23e

I only use this on my 1 Windows computer, no mobile apps or other computers. This occurred when listening to Discover Weekly.

I just wanted to add that greyed out tracks seem to be actually left out now when showing on Release Radar, just noticed it checking my scrobbles. Previously they were still played, and I had to click on the minus sign then to make them stop and skip to the next track.
