Windows Phone 8 App will not play tracks or download playlists.

Solved!

Windows Phone 8 App will not play tracks or download playlists.

Description

Windows Phone App will not play tracks or download playlists.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

  1. Start the App
  2. Attempt to start any track: from playlists, what’s new, inbox, etc.
  3. Ellipses run across the top of the app… no errors, but the track never plays
  4. Navigating away from the app or letting the phone lock – app crashes without error

What I expected to happen

Songs play, offline playlists download, app runs in background

What actually happened

I was able to fix this... LONG story short: using Facebook credentials the app crashed when I attempted to play Premium content. Must use 'Devices' username & password from Spotify site's account settings.

Hey Spotify, an error message would have saved me a HUGE headache!

Hi, the first an easy way to start would be to reinstall the app. As always 😉

And about the offline saving thing.
I figured out on my smartphone, that if you're space it's too small, lets say under 100mb of free space. Spotify won't download selected songs, because the operating system ( in my case iOS) refuses the app to use the remaining space for offline saving.
Just clear the cache off other apps or try delete some unnecessary ones.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I've reinstalled the app twice and have 10 GB of space on the phone.

I kinda wish the app would do something dramatic, but it just doesent work. 😞

Just wondering......did you have the latest facebook app installed?

I had the exact same problem. Getting the device password through Spotify Settings fixed it. Nokia Lumia 925 latest Facebook and Spotify App.

So far

Hi same issue same solution. just installed everything on the phone

How do I "Get the device password through Spotify Settings" ???

You only need a device password if your account was created via Facebook. You should be able to request one from:

I wish there be a good competitor for Spotify and I will definetly leave spotify for the crappy windows phone.

Holy **bleep**, that worked. Log in with your main account, not the attached facebook account.
