podcast playlist randomly turns shuffle on

when I listen to a podcast, the playlist will randomly change from going down the list in order to shuffle. I have an android.

Just to confirm, does this only happen when listening to a certain playlist with podcast episodes in it? Or does it happen when starting a specific podcast episode as well?

Could you check if clearing cache makes any difference? You can see how by following the steps on this page.

If that doesn't do the trick, it would be great if you could send a video or screenshot showing how things look from your end, so that we can have a look as well. Your current app version would also be helpful.

It shuffles when reopening the app which has a podcast loaded. You click play on a prior played episode on the play bar which is halfway through, rather than from the podcast list, and suddenly all the following episodes are shuffled.

It appears to turn on smart shuffle when you reopen the app and hit play, rather than going to the podcast episode list and hitting play. But these icons are hidden once the app loads and can’t be turned off. I just want to pick up from the last episode I played and assume it will keep playing in order 🥲 it’s just started doing this and is driving me crazy

Thanks for letting us know! As we couldn't replicate the result, let's try going for some troubleshooting here!
If you haven't done so already, try clearing the cached data as @Maria has suggested. Log out of the app two times in a row after this to trigger a manual sync of your settings and data.

If this doesn't make a difference, try going for a complete clean reinstall of the app and, in case the issue remains even then, let us know the following details:

• The make & model of the affected device
• Its OS version
• Your Spotify app version
• A short video recording or a few screenshots of how your queue looks like on your end before and after closing the app

P.S. Note that we have an Ongoing Issue with Smart Shuffle here but from what I'm seeing it doesn't seem to be affecting podcasts so far. Nevertheless, you can subscribe to that thread to stay on top of any new updates in case you wish to do so. Cheers!
