Spotify Connect, while maybe a welcome feature and OPTION for some, forces the use of your tablet or phone as a psuedo controller for the system's music output, and it's complete and absolute garbage.
I cannot browse artists within the app itself short of searching for them directly, I cannot shuffle my playlists beyond the first 30-40 songs, and I can't add or edit my playlists from the PS4 app.
I've been waiting about three hours now for a device password in hopes that I can stop destroying my phone's battery to play music on what is an otherwise completely independent video game system. This idea is a trainwreck and Music Unlimited was far superior to this service as far as the PS4 integration and functionality is concerned. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
@Meredith - My playlists are all organized alphabetically by artist and songs are group with their respective albums. Multiple playlists with anywhere from 800-2000 songs. When I hit shuffle, it plays all of the songs from the first artist on the list, albeit out of order because it's shuffling through the first however many songs it finds. I let it play for an hour before it found the next artist. Uncool.
Works flawlessly on my phone when not connected to the PS4, and flawlessly on the PC version as well. Shuffle is not turning off. It's simply not working. It's not shuffling the entire list as it should be.
I should be able to browse artists on the Spotify PS4 app. Artists AND related artists. I can on the PC and iOS apps, and I could on Music Unlimited. Why does this feel like a HUGELY stripped down version of even the already limited iOS app?
Hey @sXeUnderdog thanks for reaching out to us via the Spotify Community.
Could you confirm a couple details for us so we can investigate this for you:
I copied and pasted my starred playlist into a big playlist and can confirm when I hit shuffle on PS4 it only played 2Cellos tracks, which is fine because I enjoy them, but it wouldn't look at any other artists - the playlist has over 6,000 tracks. Here's a link: https://open.spotify.com/user/blahsi/playlist/4yS7EsPE3GKKSFjgoVJZZH
This is the only playlist I tried shuffling so far. Hope we can get this sorted out!
I have this same problem as well as many others. I posted my thoughts in another post, but I'll post it here as well. The PS4 GUI only loads a fraction of your playlist at a time so say when you want to scroll through it it will scroll over a little bit and then hit a load and take a little bit to load the next bit of songs. You'll notice this if you try and scroll through the songs quickly. It seems it only loads a small portion of the playlist into memory and the shuffle is based off of what it has loaded in memory.
I agree this needs to be solved and its not only with large playlists mine is about 200 and this problem occurs as well
I too, am having this problem. My playlist, currently at around 1400 songs isnt getting shuffled. I've noticed, when i try to skip tracks, before i start the shuffle to load more songs into the screen, it seems to increase the number of songs shuffled. Is there a pre-loading feature as the PS4 app does not download the entire playlist, and only hsuffles through what it has downloaded?
I've been having the same problem. It will play only like 30 songs and not even from different artists. It will only play tha last songs I added.
I have this problem too, even with just 300 songs. It is very annoying
I'm wondering if this issue is also present for subscribing users, or just free trial users?
Can anyone verify?
Otherwise I feel like I'd be better off with an older version of winamp to run the media...
Good ol winamp...
You could have STABLE VOLUME!!!
Oh, by the way, do the song volumes normalize with the paid supbscription? Or are people still playing with volume controls?
Thanks
