Hi, @Andy-Susumu,

Thanks for reaching out!

Does this occur before or after you log in to your account? In case it's after, it's worth trying with another account (a friend's or a relative's would do) to see if the issue would persist there. If possible, I'd also recommend changing the "Proxy type" to No proxy from the login menu to see if that helps:

Spoiler
  1. From the Spotify login screen, select Settings.
  2. In the new window that shows up, set the Proxy type to No proxy.
  3. Restart the app.

Lastly, check if there are any pending updates for Spotify or your OS and install them.

Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes

It happens before I log in the start up screen will appear then at once shutdown again

Thanks for the reply, @Andy-Susumu!

Are you using any apps/settings that might be blocking Spotify & causing it to crash? If so, make sure you add the app as an exception.

Keep us posted on this.

Today spotify again doesn't open. Yesterday it worked very odd

Hi, @Andy-Susumu,

Are you able to set up Linux on your Chromebook? If so, something else you can try is installing the Linux app instead to see if that does the trick.

I'd also suggest making sure your drivers and OS are running the latest updates.

Take care 💚

Spotify keeps freezing on Chromebook so that you have uninstall it and reinstall it.

My Question or Issue

I am also having a persistent issue with this and have no clue how to fix it. My computer and Spotify are both updated.

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out in this thread!

@Music1999 - just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned earlier by @Yordan?

Also, if you're using the Android app, it seems like a reinstall of the app could help as well - would you mind giving it a shot (if you haven't already)? You can find the steps by heading over to this Google support page. To reinstall the app, check out Install the Android version of Spotify on your Chromebook listed in this FAQ.

Should this behavior persist, however, could you let us know if you have any issues when using the Web Player? Also, do you notice any difference when using another internet connection?

Let us know how you get on!

I reinstalled the app. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I actually mow use the webplayer because there are no issues with that.

Hi Maria, I would try this, however, my laptop does not have enough storage to download Linux (I also cannot possibly delete anymore on here to make space and the system itself takes up over 20 of my 32 GB).

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app probably about 10 times. Nothing has changed since then in terms of updates or my WiFi, so I do not understand why now all of a sudden I am unable to log in.

Before April I was able to open my laptop and open Spotify, no issue. Then the first few days I would have to uninstall and reinstall and it would work fine. Now Spotify just does not respond when I open it. It will open show the logo for a moment and then immediately shut down.

Hi @Andy-Susumu, @Music1999,

Thanks for the replies.

Does the same happen on both the Android/Linux app as well as the regular web player? Does the same happen on different networks? If you haven't tested that, please do so. Also if you use a VPN, disable it as that interfere with communcation.

Let us know how it goes.

The webplayer works, but after each song I play it stops playing anymore music.

Hey @Music1999,

Could you let us know if you're getting any error messages both on the Web Player and the app respectfully?
I'm also wondering if the music stops after each song and if this happens regardless of whether you try playing an entire album/ playlist or a single song only.

As a troubleshooting step here we can see if using a different browser or an incognito browser window would change this behaviour. If it does, see if removing the affected browser's cached data would help out.

As for the Android app on the Chromebook, could you let us know if the app completely freezes even before you attempt logging in or if it freezes after the login attempt? Here we can try using a different network to see if that would bring any change. Make sure you have no VPN services enabled as VPN can interfere with the app's performance.

With this out of the way, you can also attempt clearing the app's cached data. To do so, go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Manage Android preferences > Apps > Spotify > Storage. Clear all data in there and try starting the app. If there's no change, let us know what your currently available app version is and we'll gladly take a further look into this for you. To see the latest available version without accessing the app, open the Google Play store > Search for Spotify > Scroll to About this app > Scroll down to App info; version.

Much appreciated & hope this helps! We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

Hi, I attempted clearing the cache and still nothing works.

Hey @Music1999,

Thanks for the reply.

With the things we have tried so far it looks like the issue might be related to your particular personal setup. As we do not have enough information to conclude this however, we'd like to ask you to  give us answers to the questions we've previously asked.

Let us know how the other troubleshooting steps we've suggested have affected Spotify on the Web Player and the Android app installed on your Chromebook. With these additional details we may be able to further help you out with this 🙂

Keep your Chromebook and Spotify app up to date at all times.

Cheers!
