This isn't your warmed over gothic pop punk. This is an amazing collection of bands influenced by 90's Emo and some of the original bands mixed in.
*This will be updated when I find new amazing tracks.
Emo like almost all underground genres rarely resembles the mainstream version of the genre. If you say to someone “EMO” they think of mostly water downed “whiny” pop punk. True Emo grew out of the 80’s hardcore punk scene of Washington D.C. and developed into its amazing signature sound in it’s “third wave” during the mid 90’s.
I personally got into emo through all things the “Batman & Robin” soundtrack where I heard a song from a little-known band called “Sunny Day Real Estate”. That began my journey into a whole new world of melodic, aggressive music with raw cathartic lyrics. I lost interest as bands broke up and the sound changed into its mainstream form. It wasn't until I heard the 90’s sound return, in recent years, with artists like “the world is a beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die” that I jumped back in.
So this collection is for those who loved that period of emo and those who thought Emo was just pop punk with tears. This is a small record of what made the sound so great and memorable.
