Caitlyn Van Mol, Lived to Tell season 1 episode 35 “I looked behind me and saw the wolves”.
Boy did this episode irk me.
This was my first and only episode with this podcaster. SO MANY mistakes.
Like: what self respecting third generation Alaskan goes to “find her man” without any emergency gear, flare gun, Bear spray, SNOW SHOES? (You can snap tree limbs to secure to your shoes to make some).
here is what a 30 minute google search shows:
ALASKA NATIVE NEWS 12/15/13 a call relayed to a trooper that Vivian Mayo “had gone out to get help, and look for husband…” and was concerned when she didn’t return. Who was this person? How did they know she left, when “the plan was to stay in”! And why did they wait two days longer to report them missing? Also, they continued to report that she was found 1 mile from home. Not 2.5 miles. As well, they documented the temp was -20, not -25
NBC6 MIAMI FL Vivian was found “taking a under the burnt out hull of her snowmobile and sharing body heat with Elvis” NOT under the sled (what self respecting first responder does not check under things before going into the woods?? Again, Vivian lie). They also report the “temperature dipped to -20. Not a constant -20, not a-25, dipped. They reported ZERO evidence of the wolves. NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (Updated Jan 10. 2019- hey Caitlyn, even NYDN can admit their error) found 1am selling shelter under the burnt out hulk of snowmobile and sharing body heat with Elvis.
Scott was found 2-3 miles from his cabin and in good condition as HE TOOK survivor precautions. This episode needs to be taken down. It is a gross example of journalism, it is a disrespect to Wolves, which, are in the title, you’d expect them to be real. A HUGE disrespect to Alaskan Community. A Gross Disrespect to Emergency Responders everywhere that she left on her own merit, therefore breaking the rules of the plan, and GLAMORIZING someone that survived her own stupidity.
