How do I turn off ads in podcasts?

Hey! So I have a premium account and these ads is ruining the whole experience with listening to pods. How do I turn them off?

This is incorrect. For example, Spotify OWNS The Ringer podcast so that is Spotifys choice to insert ads. Stop casting the blame.

Hearing adverts during a meditation soundtrack is shocking. I’m considering quoting Spotify Premium as I use it for bedtime meditation and I’m frequently jumping from a deep sleep with stupid commercials. Makes me mad!

Ditto

Getting local commercials in podcast that never gave me ads in the last years. Use them often to fall asleep, this ruins a much needed habbit for me. Also a fully paying member for like 10 years, accepted all the (not always so great) updates but this is unacceptable.

Shame on you spotify for mis-selling your premium service as ad free. Ads are getting increasingly intrusive and have reached the point that I can't use the platform for podcasts any more

Stop blaming the content providers for this - you engineered the platform - you took the business decision to take our subscriptions and double dip for ad revenue.

Can anyone recommend a platform that doesn't abuse its paying customers in this way?

That´s insane, we shouldn´t have ads at all

I’m currently on a premium account and I’m still getting ads between podcasts or when I fast forward. This is outrageous; a premium account should not have this kind of advertisement

Pure greed like most other streaming services. Double dipping indeed. If they don't take out adv on premium dont pay for premium

I have been using Spotify since 2014 I believe, but as they are planning to increase the family plan from £17.99 to £19.99 next month, (last increase was in 2021 from £14.99 to £17.99, so £4 in three years) and due the continue stubbornness in keeping advertising premium users accounts on podcasts, I have now cancelled my account. It will end the 13/04. #byebyespotify7f274254-cf3d-4318-a15b-b22605b96ffa.jpg

Why is this marked as a solution?

Ads in podcasts are driving me nuts!

I am a paid Spotify user and just had 3 ads in a 23min economist podcast!

I'll continue using Spotify for music but want to switch to another app for podcasts. Can anyone recommend another platform?

Not happy about this either.
I get they are embedded by the podcaster.
At least we can skip them with a premium sub, but still annoying.
2 Great things about the All-In pod: great content and no commercials

Cheers,
Toby

I agree. I'm **bleep** about this. They sold us out, their paying customers, for more adverters. In the name of "that's how podcasts are". Well, it's not how shopify-sponsored and produced podcast HAS to be.

Hi ToolboxT -
I get this when live commercials are read by the host. I do get (and manually skip) commercials that are regional: there are national pods with regional commercials. Since these commercials can be loaded by region, I wish there was a way to skip them altogether.
Cheers,
Toby

The podcast: “how to do hard things”, has massive amounts of advertisements in it nowadays. There has to be a way to turn off this excessive amount of advertising. How can I do that?

I don't like the denial of responsibility by Spotify. To say they cannot do anything about it and that it is in the hands of the podcaster is disingenuous. Spotify has chosen to enable podcasters to earn add revenue on premium members as an alternative to having to offer some of the subscription fee revenue to the podcasters. This is a conscious choice of a corporation run with the mindset that revenues need to grow every year so if the market or market share is not growing quick enough they need to squeeze some revenue out elsewhere. So they test the ads on premium customers and it appears (in the short term) to work as a negligible percentage of premium members cancel their subscription. So the project manager and senior management get their bonuses. But the ads do not go unnoticed. There is an immediate impact: loss of brand loyalty. This opens up the market for a disruptive new entry and before Spotify can blink a tipping point occurs and Spotify is left fighting for survival. If you are thinking of switching to Apple Music I can offer you one other selling point: Apple is way ahead on running their servers on renewable energy. And when it comes to streaming, energy counts.

The reason I moved from Apple to Spotify was because Apple iTunes said if you own the cd's and their system for checking at the time approved it you would have access to the music. Well they **bleep** us over and changed that and I had gotten rid of my cds so I didn't have access to the music. Apple might make hardware that stands up to the test of time, but they don't support it with operating systems. I have a fully function iPad mini first edition that is no longer supported. And an Apple TV device that no longer lets me login. Apple screws us too.

On Android device I use "Antenna Pod" that I got from F-Droid store.  You can set custom skip button durations, download episodes, sync between devices (Gpodder implementation).  It's my way of giving the proverbial finger to advertisements.  I'm a huge proponent of ad blocking online due to its invasiveness and obnoxiousness.  There is no Google, Apple or Microsoft in my life.  Spotify may next go away.

Same way here and not comfortable with that! I don’t pay to listen to ANY ads!
