True Crime Spotlight: Crime Show

Not all true crime has to be doom, gloom, and murder. To keep things a bit lighter this week, here are three episodes of one of our favorite podcasts: Crime Show, that are a bit less...morbid.

The Myspace Misdemeanor

Poking fun at the vice principal of her school seemed to be a harmless joke to teenager Hillary Transue. Instead, she was placed in a strict, prison-like detention center without a fair trial as a result of her little prank. Now, to get out, she would need to expose a series of corruption schemes that ran all the way to the state's judicial system.

The Secret Billboard Chart-Topper

Singer Martha Wash was killing some time in between shows by watching TV in her hotel room. To her surprise, she heard a familiar voice in a music video-- her own voice-- coming from someone that isn't her. The problem is: stealing someone else's voice wasn't a crime.

There's No Place Like Grand Rapids

The little midwestern town Grand Rapids, Minnesota exists firmly in the shadow of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In trying to re-brand themselves to stand out a bit more, the community was torn; do they lean on their small-town appeal, or bank on being the birthplace of movie star Judy Garland? As it turned out, a notorious crime would end the debate once-and-for-all, putting Grand Rapids, Minnesota firmly on the map.
